Can't dial in new rifle

All sorts of good advice going on. I really appreciate everyone taking the time to post. I called Talley yesterday and they essentially told me that at 25 yards nothing matters and that I should shoot at 100 instead. I can see where they're coming from but I've had to shoot animals at 25 yards and don't want to think about holding on the spine to hit vitals at that distance. He didn't really have anything else to offer. So, I went to my local gun shop today and they tried shimming it but still couldn't get it close enough. I went ahead and ordered new bases from Leupold (I already have rings) in hopes that they'll work. Stay tuned........

Hard to believe the Talleys didn't work. I would be inclined to think it might be the scope. You'll know when you mount it in the Leupolds. I'm with hooper on this one.

I went all thru that last spring with my Leupold CDS so that I could use the full adjustment of the dial. I finally bought some Burris Signature rings with the oblong inserts to raise the rear enough then had to buy a second of the biggest offset insert to get the side to side lined up. Worked perfect! I was able to basically sight in the rifle with the crosshairs perfectly centered in the scope by shifting the inserts. I have the maximum amount of travel on the CDS dial now.

Personally, I would go with the Signatures over the shims under the bases. Looks a lot cleaner and the Burris inserts don't torque the scope tube at all. I am really happy with it anyhow. I tried the shim thing but it just pissed me off to go that route on a brand new rifle.

You won't. If it's that low at 25 I doubt it's going to be anywhere close at 100yds. That said, I'd only be using 25yds to get me on paper...

I'd also consider trying a different scope in the current rings. It could have gone t!ts up.

Never said which scope?
It could be a Barska and needs to be mounted backwards......

I had that problem once.. I had used mismatched front and rear rails, as the gun shop didn't have 2 of the same brand that had the mounting holes in the right spots. Turned out one brand sat slightly higher than the other, which set the scope at an angle. I ordered the correct matching set and all was well.

This^^^ When me vortex got mounted last year the rear was too tall...once that was fixed it was all aces :)

I have the results! After a few emails with the rep at Weatherby, we came to the conclusion that I purchased the wrong bases. Apparently I bought the magnum ones that are almost identical but different enough to cause issues. I can't blame myself so I'll say that the Midway site was slightly misleading. I apologize for the anticlimactic ending to this saga but thats the way it goes when you don't read about what you're buying. I ordered the correct ones (hopefully) from my local gun shop and should have them soon. Thanks again all.

If the mounts and the rings are the same size.. and installed correctly, you should not be having this problem. Check to make sure you have the mounts installed properly. Rear mount on the rear action bridge and the foward mount on the forward action ring. Then examine the rings to make sure they are the same height.. Medium or high rings should work. If all of that matches, then take the rifle to a compentant gunsmith and ask that it be bore sighted. With all the vertical travel in modern scopes, there is no reason the scope should not dial in within a couple of clicks of the mid point.

I had done the same thing years back, ordered wrong one thru Midway or Brownells. I called Talley and they sent the correct one for my gun. I sent the wrong one I had to them for exchange, easy peasy.
I order direct from Talley now, no problems.

I hope we get another update after the new rings are mounted as I am not sure that was the issue......hope I'm wrong.
