GW Bush is looking into setting up a commitee on "incom tax reform"...Bush said before the election that our current tax system is a huge mess and a burden on the people...options are Flat tax...National sales tax.. I have to give credit to him for trying to do this.. no other president has even come close to attempting Tax reform...To hell with the I.R.S. Bush is right on about this subject I.M.O.
;)

National Sales Tax with an importation clause to prevent offshore buying would be a wonderful thing if they kept it to 10% or 12%. The last number I heard though was 17%, and that would be a tax on everything including gas.

I'd pay 17% sales tax on everything... Still a decent savings considering that I already pay 30% right off the top and then another 7% on everything I buy. I'm not sure it would generate enough revinue though.

Think of all the drug dealers, illigals and under the table dead beats out there not paying taxes. I love the idea of a national sales tax. If your a worker with half a job you'll cut your taxes in half. At the same time I believe that revenues would boom. The extra income will just keep churning, and everyone will be paying equally based on there consumption. I am guessing to get reform through some investment deposits would end up being taxed, and groceries and some housing and utilities would be exempt.
