First archery bull. Snuck in to 22 yards while he was raking a tree. I shot him late in the evening so we left him overnight and packed him out the next morning in the rain.

My daughter killed her bull the day before mine. Three solid days of packing meat. I was exhausted.

Done packing elk meat for the week. Let's move on to a mule deer. The day after we got my elk out, Elkaholic connected with this nice buck. It's only a mile and a half to the truck. Let's take the whole thing in one trip.

My dad has some of that camo. He will not part with it either. I love that stuff.

Sleds and packs.... Pack it like you stole it back from a grizzly. Word to the wise. Don't shoot yourself or your partner with the bear spray when you are on high alert trying to get the elk meat into packs.

The first time in my life I really felt like an accomplished deer hunter. Beautiful 9pt buck on opening morning when hunting a new area. Three quarters of a mile from the pirogue.


Next year the same weekend in the same area. Photo doesn’t do it justice but there is a deer and a hog in that pack. Had to crawl to a tree just to stand up.

I was so beat when I got home but I weighed all of it. I was really struggling getting it out, even thought mostly downhill. Adding in my wet boots, clothing, the antlers, optics and rifle was almost 170 lbs.
