Man I gotta let out some steam. Me and my buddy have 5 weeks until our trip to AK. to fly in for a week long drop off bou hunt north of the Brooks range. Shew I have been wanting to go for a few years now and job changes and so forth has stopped me but it's all systems go looks like for this year. Just got my 2 bou tags and 1 wolf tag in the mail this week and all plans are final and set for takeoff! Hopefully the bou with cooperate and we can get some meat on the ground......A big white wolf wouldn't be bad either:D

The information you provided sounds like it's a piloted in hunt. Which is good. The porcupine herd is HUGE and can be anywhere depending on migration pattern. I hunted it in 07', unguided, and un-successful. I was stationed in fairbanks in the Airforce at that time. I regret not flying in, I drove in and what I can tell you is expect to have some of the best scenery and solitude of your life. I know there is a phone number you can call to find out where the herd is. Alaska fish and game fly's over the herds.. especially during hunting season. I would make sure to find out that number, That caribou herd range is about the size of the midwestern states. Brng a fishing pole and plan on catching grayling from just about any creek. Be cautious of inland bears, they are smaller but more agressive than the coastal brown bear. And plentiful. You should have good luck. Look for wolf tracks on sandbars, during the morning you will see them. And hear them do lots of glassing on the skylines, And be prepared for weather of all sorts. I saw snow in july! Good luck! hope this helps. PM me for more specific questions.

Definately be ready for anything. This pic was taken from the haul road looking south west towards the Brooks range. Can't remember what the date was exactly, but think it must of been around the end of August. Definately one of my favorite places on the planet.

Mlbuck thanks for the info yeah we are getting flown in and kicked out for a week. However we will probally be hunting the Central Artic Herd even though east of the Haul Rd. I am sure they mix with the Pocupine Herd over there. I had some friends do the walk in with hit and miss results one year they did awesome the next was a bust only one bou taken. I think we are pretty well prepared for things I know that in Sept. it can get nasty up there if the weather hits early.

Frency I can't wait to see some of the country up there that place is truely some wilderness once your in off the Haul Rd. Can't wait to get some of that Brooks range solitute and watch the northren lights.

Best northern lights display I ever saw was at the end of that trip. Spent one night in Coldfoot drinking around the campfire with some GI's that pulled a fifth wheel camper up there. Sitting right smack in the middle of the brooks range and the lights were flikering from horizon to horizon.

Hope you have a great hunt! Here are a couple pictures of my trek up in that area last year, just to build the anticipation ;)

Gosh I can't wait those are some awesome pics the Brooks are just unreal they are huge.... I always said the crazies where my favorite range but after this I don't know:rolleyes:

Those are some beautiful pictures.

Good luck on your trip, one I've been contemplating.

Billy Molls has some good videos with a ton of footage of the Brooks. Pretty good stuff.

I hunted above Kotzebue in mid September 2010 DIY! Our transporter was We Guide Alaska. The weather held up the migration and I passed up on smaller bulls waiting for better ones. Even though I didn't pull the trigger the supercub flight in and out was worth the price of admission. The highlight of the trip was being charged by a grizzly and almost having to put her down. Thank GOD we didn't have to! I hope you hit it right and take some big bulls. Good luck!

Well the time is here I am heading out tomarrow evening after work starting the long trek to the Brooks Range chasing the bou. The weather looks great for next week so far. Appears to be good hunting conditions hearing of some book bou being taken this week up there so can't wait to get into the mountians for the first time this year. Yell when I get back in a few weeks.:hump:

Just made it back into civilization from the bou hunt we saw hundreds of animals and took two very good ones! Had an awesome trip on the north slope.

Man that picture of the braided river sure brings back memories. My brother and A buddy met me up there one year and we ran the Sag to the Ivishack in my 16ft Jon boat. A river captain I am not! Made for a very memorable OYOA for us.

So post up some pics of your trip when you get a chance Brownbear.

Okay finally got some of the pics downsized but here is the bou I took from the North Slope hunt we had a great hunt will do a write up on total hunt soon.
