Seen this bear a few yrs ago. I'm not a bear hunter but he looked to be around the 300 lb marker. Bear was around 600yrds out.

I figured that 300 lb. comment had to be a joke since you did post this in "Other Small Game"
 
Sitting bear. I take back the 300 lb'er guess. Closer to 13.3 lbs.

I've always read, heard seen that you judge by the ears. The ears quit growing but the head doesn't. Judge by how many ear widths are between the ears. This bear is barely over one width so it is very young. Most adults are 2 or over and trophy size is 3.
 
Bear do have more ground shrinkage than any other animal
Shot my 1st one with a bow at 13 yrds abt 15 yrs ago and I knew it was 300 lbs made a good hit heard the death moan walked up to it with my buddy and said well the big boy I shot must have run this little guy over and killed it getting out of dodge
it was 165 lbs
