Ollin Magnetic Digiscoping System

Big ol Burban

Work got canceled so I had time to make the air intake today. No commercial or factory options worked so fabricated was the best option. Ordered some 4” .125 wall aluminum tubing, some 90 degree silicone bends, and a new K&N filter. I also had to weld on a new mass air flow port and 3/8 vacuum line. Turned out pretty good, I am happy with it. I may try and fab up a housing for the filter to draw more cold air. Time will tell if that happens, it could be unnecessary if the air intake temps are good while we are driving.

Underhood temps can get pretty hot. Any kind of housing to intake air from outside would be much cooler than under hood.

The original K&N cold air intake or the GM factory intake pulled hair thru the fender. The thing is they really are not cold air as the fender has several openings into the engine bay. So it pulls air past the fender skin but it is still the same air from the engine bay.

There was a small plastic tunnel that hooked the radiator support to the inner fender for air. I did not reinstall it as it really didn’t do anything. If there was plugs for the rest of the holes it would have. But air takes the easiest route and the 3” square hole next to the air intake hole will fulfill the easiest route.

Ordered a new grill and went to install it today. These OE grills are always broken. So there are a ton of aftermarket ones available. I went with Amazon so I could do free returns. I expected to get damaged ones from just the shipping and handing from overseas. I was not disappointed. Try number one…

LMC truck not an option? mtmuley

I just placed an order from them for a list of odds and ends that needed replacing. All small stuff but the shipping was 61 dollars.

It would be the same type of Chinese grill from them and the shipping would be double that. The box is 1’x2’x 7’.

LMC truck absolutely rapes you on shipping. My arse hurt hitting submit last night. 61 dollars ups shipping for a medium box of trim.

Since the grill was a no go for today, the boy and I worked on the interior and added towing mirrors. The passenger side window switch needed replacing and the light in the door was broken. I wanted to clean the old switch to see if it was just dust but it wasn’t. Another $20 to Amazon for a Dorman switch and we will be back operating. The light just needs some epoxy as the clip was broken. I may grab another one when I go to the junk yard next time.

I like the tow mirrors, they were a good FB mark find. The plan is to have this tow the camper. The original mirrors were loose internally and shook when it was running. Now they are solid and you can see behind you.

Pulled the passenger seat to reupholster while it’s cold the next few days.
