Best 308 height @ 100

It will depend on what bullet, muzzle velocity, and altitude but for general use I’ve always set mine up for 1.5” high at 100. That puts it roughly dead on at 200, ~7” low at 3, and just under 20” low at 400.

Depends on your scope setup. If dialing or using some sort of bullet drop compensation reticle, zero dead on at 100.

Go with 3” at 100 for the 308 for best basic hunting result on deer sized vitals. Aim center of vitals to 250-275, maybe elevate an inch or two approaching 300 yds. This is more or less regardless of bullet but you might want to go to 3.5” if you are shooting an 18 or 20” barrel. Don’t fight gravity, you will probably (definitely) lose.

Also, you probably should not be taking 300 yd shots unless you have tested your rifle to at least 200 yards at the range.
