I hope some more of the big players buy up the working ranches that come on the market and keep them as conservation properties before developers get them.

Preservation of habitat is better than winter range fragmentation.

But if the big players buy, and preserve the properties, they face immediate scrutiny if hunting isn't allowed. Or if hunting is selective. Or God forbid, charged for. mtmuley

I’d way rather see the Flying D, CA, and Sun Ranch than the Yellowstone Club. Maybe we need an APR Gallatin division.

Just as long as they aren’t locking it up then complaining about too many elk and then getting management policies passed that hurt everyone else who wants to hunt elk in the rest of the state.

Agreed. But not all big players are a problem. We tend to single out the highest profile landowners in Montana. Gets more likes. mtmuley
