Anybody using/used the Barnes Original 190 gr. JFN in their .30-30 - factory or handloads?

If so, what are your thoughts?

No experience with that one. Figure the bullet is pretty long that would take up a lot of powder space and end up with a slow moving freight train. If they are soft enough, they would be effective on deer at reasonable differences. They seem to shoot a lot of deer with Sub-sonic rounds anymore. Probably about the same deal although you probably wouldn't be using a suppressor.

Thanks for the reply Griz. That's what I would think too, but found some info to the contrary. But on data point - one guy, one rifle.

The extra weight does slow it a bit but not as much as you'd think. Mason Outdoor did a Youtube video on the Barnes factory load and it was running averaged 1891 fps. (IIRC) from a 20" barrel, with 37" of penetration at 100 yds. It's a freight train for sure!

I was hoping someone has some experience with accuracy since it's a long for caliber bullet and maybe some real world performance on game.
