Ballot Initiative to End NR Big Game Hunting?

Non residents are not going to be banned, it will never happen, nor should it.

But there are many things needing to be cleaned up. Those won't likely happen either. There needs to be a hard cap on the number of non resident elk and deer tags. The various govornor's tags are a cancerous tumor on the North American model. They need to end.

Non residents and residents need to chose their weapon. Their tag would only be valid for that season. The seasons need to be shortened, both to benefit the herds and to diminish the allure of outfitting hunters.

I have been hunting as a resident for forty years, I hope the decline I have witnessed is not the trend line for the next forty years. Likely it is.

No please do fill them. Get us to the bottom a lot quicker so we can make some
meaningful changes to how we manage our mule deer
I understand the sentiment but I have a conscience and I could not shoot a mule deer doe where I was with a clear conscience.

I am by no means an expert, but I can look at the amount of food available on a landscape and pair that with the amount of deer and deer sign that I see and come to the conclusion that something ain't right when it comes to deer numbers on that landscape.

To bad more people canā€™t come to that conclusion no matter what their home address is.

Want you boys in this thread to know that you've changed my mind about one thing in particular: I'm going to start planning some hunts in Montana.
Ten dollars says you come here and shoot what you will later refer to on social media as a ā€œlast day meat buckā€. It will score 123 5/8ā€.

Will this initiative be for all hunting including upland bird and small game and can fishing be lumped in as well? Is it all hunting in general or just the type you are struggling to fill your personal tags on.

Maybe an initiative to open all gated roads and remove wilderness boundaries would be a better option. You could ride your side by side a lot farther to improve your hunting.

Majority of residents do the same and you know it. How many "meat bucks" are getting slaughtered by residents? At $16.00 a pop you can get every relative that shows up for Thanksgiving turkey dinner a tag. It's all about tradition right? Sorry but the only difference in MT right now regarding the slaughter of meat bucks is that residents are doing it for $16.00 and NR's are doing it for $800. Both are doing it. And whether you or I like it, it's within their hunting rights to fill their tag on whichever buck they want.

I would sign something like this in a heart beat. No more NR resident hunting in MT. I am tired of the gross overestimation of NR hunter money to our economy as a whole. Yes FWP gets a boost from NR tag sales. But there is a significant amount from residents too. It would not take much at all to make up for lost NR funds. Raise cost of fishing, conservation, bow stamp, etc. a couple bucks and we'd be there. Why does everyone think that residents would shit their pants over that? Present it as this: "Hunting in MT will be reserved only for the residents of MT. But in order to accomplish that, we need to raise the cost of every residents hunting and fishing experience for the year by $40." NR hunter money is an easy target for funds. Eliminating it may force us residents to step up and play a bigger role in management of our own state's game. That would not be a bad t

I think MT voters would pass a ballot initiative to end all non resident big game hunting. After all of the shady legislative efforts I feel like this would be the ultimate F you to outfitters, absentee landowners and basically everyone who has tried to strip away what little we have left. Who up for some signature gathering? Any lawyers in the house?

This is the best idea Iā€™ve had all day.
Do it! It's all headed that way.
