My good friend,

Your state is proud to have legalized open carry of swords.

That's some amazingly simplistic thinking right there. :)

Interestingly enough, the state with open carry of swords hasn’t had any mass school shootings, and last mass shooting they had some dude with a Ar 15 got to the shooter before the cops could.. hmmm..

Austin!

Too many sites in Texas.

Military and civilian

Love Texas, but they are not exempt.

Do a good job in the aftermath.

What more could you want for?

That's their wet dream.. Talk about a path to a civil war.. This is America, were not France or Australia... This is the melting pot, the memories our ancestors carried with them from the atrocities brought upon them by their home nations might not be in the memories of their children, grandchildren, or great grand children, But the DNA of self preservation, of self protection, independence and freedom still flows in our blood, for some of us anyway.

People talk about the Nra and politicians, special interest groups... Nearly Every political problem that exists in this country could be solved with one law.

No person or organization can give more than $100 dollars to any persons campaign for local, state or national office..

How about equal opportunity of media exposure for people running for office. I am fine with the NRA not controlling politicians, as long as the unions don't either..

I woke up in Missoula one Sunday morning but then remembered it was Austin.

You can still buy a house in Missoula if you have $250K.

Quack: Texas hasn't escaped mass shootings at all. Starting with the UT shooting and forward. Texas has also seen it's share of other mass shootings & gun related violence. I lost a high school friend to it in Houston.

Certainly mental health is part of the problem, and I am not expert, but it seems like disaffection is the originating problem. Seems like these shooters come from broken homes, no friends, no ties to school, community, church -- this isolation likely leads to diagnoses, but I don't think medication alone fixes the problem. We have to find a way to make these kids fit in the larger world around them -- develop self-worth and empathy -- whether it be a loner suburban who plots a school shooting, or an urban kid who sees the local gang as the only "family" they can ever have.

YES! There are the anomalies, but by and large, this is one of the roots of the problem. When you look at other nations, providing basic services & a path towards a better life - not a handout, but a hand up, seems to help.

There is a real issue with a lack of fathers and community leaders stepping up to help these kids. From my experience, faith-based efforts generally lead the pack when it comes to getting this work done. Grants for organizations like Fathers int he Field, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, etc could also be an effective means of helping change the culture of doom.

I think The Key word in my statement was MASS, and for whatever reason the data I was looking at was just k-12

We absolutely ration health care and we absolutely have extended wait times in the U.S. For crying out loud - My dentist has a 4 month wait list. We also have a healthcare system that causes us to hold community bake sales in order to save a kid's life. We are the richest nation in the history of the world, and yet we treat our citizens like servants.

To think that the country who put a person on the moon, saved the world from facism and invented the tide pod challenge can't put together a system of healthcare that saves the indivudial money while getting a better return on our tax dollars ignores what we can do as a nation.

And again, I'm talking about ending a culture that creates the situations where gun violence occurs. Simply arming up schools ignores the root of the problem, and I support having armed personnel/resource officers at schools.

I just gotta say Ben that I've finally caught you in one of your many falsehoods.

While you might not be smart enough to look for a better dentist I believe that you just threw a false example out there to make your case.

My dentist is in Helena too and I had no problem going to him for a cracked tooth the same day and it didn't cost anything different than if I'd gone in on a regular appointment. I've lived in many places in the world and I can honestly say that the Helena area is about the worst place for good medical care, not because of the system but because of the poor quality of the doctors and their administrative personnel but if you shop around you can find doctors that are pretty good because our system allows for uniqueness, every doctor runs his office his way, it's not some 'one size fits all' federal program. My normal appointments for both the dentist and the medical doctor are about 3 or 4 days out, if you really are waiting 4 months to see your dentist (which I doubt) you must be using the VA or some other poorly managed federal provider. You always use generalities and claim that they are an absolute fact for every situation. The problem with most leftists is that you think that the world is fair only if everybody is exactly alike but in fact it's absolutely unfair and a really bad thing since you can only provide complete equality by eliminating all individuality.

As for the solution to the school gun problem, people with your thinking are the very cause of the problem. Your progressive thinking causes our kids to feel unfulfilled because they are told that their individualistic desires are bad, that they need to be liked by everybody and they must do whatever it takes to be liked, that's the tool that the progressive left uses to control everybody - guilt. Unfortunately when these kids feel unfulfilled they start looking for grand ways to make a statement that shows that they are different, dying their hair, getting tats, piercings, attitudes, and when that doesn't seem big enough then they start looking at crime or suicide or killing. Whether you like it or not children need well regimented guidance during their formative years and then progressively more freedom as they get older with supervision and repercussions for their actions.

Sorry for your loss

I actually agree with a lot of what you are saying, life experience just gives me a different perspective..

I appreciate your perspective. A good dialog is never a bad thing, and being able to have that with folks with differing perspectives is how we solve problems. Cheers!
