Average Joe's 2019

While CJ is helping his buddy fill their last camp tag, I’ve been out here hugging pine trees because we’ve been getting hammered by nasty storms.

Yesterday opener I got into a big 6x6 and his cows at 7AM. If everyone would have stuck to the script there would be a good bull down, but someone (me) his the bulls shoulder blade. The broadhead broke and I didn’t even get an inch of penetration. Those blades are unforgiving.

That used to be a Strickland helix broadhead.

Things were looking great. I checked some hidden camera spots I have. One secret water collection point/muddy wallow that is on the side of a “cliff” had 240 pictures of elk in 2 1/2 days. However naturally like any hunt it started raining yesterday so they have no need to hit it as much! :)

I did however kill us lunch.

Grouse is amazing.

Yesterday evening I got thick into some bulls last light. To put things into perspective, the three satellite bulls I encountered going into the big bull were all 6x6s.... however about 80-100 yards away from him I ran out of light. I backed out and decided to go back in there this morning.

Day 2: (this morning)

It poured all night. I woke up to 38 degrees, fog, and heavy rain. I put on my gortex and have been out trying to locate mr big all day.

It’s patchy now, but still raining. I have found two nice sheds.

I think the game plan now is to go drink some Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, change socks, and I’m going to head back out. I’ve got an evening plan. Kind of risky, but I’m going it!

That is a beautiful 5X5 bull! Congrats CJ and your buddy on a great bull! Boy did he die right in the middle of all those blow downs? Bet he will be fun getting him out of that shit hole mess!!!!

Nice bull!!

Too bad about the bad shot on the bull LITW... Quite a difference from the 106 degrees you had showing on your truck the other day!!

CJ shows up in camp while I’m helping my buddy pack out his help.
We certainly have a lot of catching up to to!

We’ve been in the woods a total of 5 minutes so far and already called up a calf. Don’t worry, lots of recap coming.
