As they lay

So I was 2 weeks away from right shoulder surgery (torn bicep tendon, rotator completely detached, torn labrum, bone spurs, and bone cyst) but I still could pull bow back @62#'s, yes it hurt like hell! I thought I had one shot left in my shoulder so I decided to hunt one more time. My son said, sit my stand, you can't get in trouble there on edge of ag field.

Buck chased 3 does past me, gave me 15 yd shot. Made perfect shot! Buck ran toward cut between fields towards my truck. Joy of running toward truck left in millisecond. Figured buck decided to fix my ass and did perfect 10 dive into ditch.!

Guess I proved my son wrong! 8' deep clay drainage ditch. I had to call him for help which I hated to do since he is a plant mgr but he was able to come there. Laughed like hell. I went down into ditch to put rope on him and then I couldn't get out due to slippery clay sides. He had to pull me out first.😂

I will say the pain was ridiculous such my hat was soaking wet in 17 degrees! My surgeon just shook head, laughed and said "damn deer hunters"!

Same thought as

I was sitting in my stand Christmas eve and Had just shot this 10 point. I was about to call my son to give me a had and the wife called and asked if I was coming to church or did I forget. I told her I was on my way. After church my son came out to help me with the half mile drag over a couple ravines and up a big hill. You can see our coyotes are very quick to get on game.

‘20 TN ML season. Small piece of public. VERY long story for very close shot(s). But he ran about 50 yards in half a second straight downhill. Picture doesn’t do the hill justice for how steep it is, but the deer’s momentum caused it to fall awkwardly and get its legs tangled in a pretty large limb as it slid down the hill. I was experiencing major back problems at the time, so getting it untangled and field dressed was a real challenge, much less getting it back to the boat

One of my favorite pictures. My younger daughter’s first buck, came on public land to boot. Shot it left handed (she’s right handed) at 15 yards while sitting up against a tree trunk. Deer came in so quickly that she didn’t have time to look at its antlers, and it dropped at the shot into a group of sweet gum saplings so that it couldn’t be seen. When she walked up to it she was literally shocked.

That grin on her face in the second picture didn’t come off for quite some time, and she even said “my cheeks hurt, but I can’t quit smiling!”

Didn’t mean to take over the thread, but last one for now.

Guided hunt in public wilderness area in NW Colorado, mainly due to my dad’s health. My first and only elk. Shot him twice in the vitals from 75yd with a 30-06 using 165 TTSXs, but the elk didn’t know that he was dead yet and decided to run. Left a good blood trail at first for tracking, but went through a ditch and some deadfall so we had to loop around a little bit to find him. I said “I can smell him, but where is he?,” which made the guide chuckle a little. Followed his tracks to see a patch of brown fur under this evergreen
