Arrow Building Software vs Chat GPT

Heck, we use it to ask a bunch of baby raising questions without having to sift through junk to find an answer. This child will the the first generation of AI assisted parenting.
So, you're relying on some person you do not know who imported the suggestions on how to raise a baby ?

Don’t read into the word “raise” so literally. It doesn’t inform the moral values by which we intend to raise a child. However, it’s a fantastic resource for answers to pedestrian questions related to raising a child.

And, not to be pedantic, but there’s no person involved. It’s an essentially a collection of super computers trained to sift through vast volumes of information and give a response most pertinent to a question. It also cites sources so you can check the veracity of information.

Is it any different than looking up “Why doesn’t my baby want to nap in the afternoon?” in a book, written by a person who I don’t know? Better yet, I’m mere seconds it can synergize information from hundreds of books on the same subject to give the best answer.

I dont mean to sound ignorant- but i dont think it means 2 large farts worth of fecal matter.

A good arrow between 250-600 grains at good speed will work...

I wouldn't use Chat GPT. You'll miss left. :D

Seriously though, building arrows isn't that hard. I haven't looked, but I'm sure you can probably find step by step instructions on YouTube.

Crazy enough I'd never thought of using it for that purpose. So I asked it for some reloading recipes, one is dang near exactly what I use in my 270
I figured it’d be good at reloading info. That data seems pretty straightforward. That’s one to verify sources with before trying though.

Haven’t had time to really test it, but its arrow speed estimate for my exact set up was damn close to what I’ve chrono’d.

We raised our kids hands on. I don't hunt with arrows. mtmuley
If you were really that set on doing things the old fashioned way the kids would’ve been hunting with flint arrowheads they made themselves.

Ya’ll really implying that I’m derelict in my parenting because I use a more efficient way of getting basic information from the internet?

No. I would never imply that. I didn't have access to the tech. And even if I did I probably couldn't figure it out anyway. mtmuley

Nah, I guess I know you’re a more standup guy than that. My bad. I think I’ve just got the first time parent defensive guard up.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s a big part of me that’d love to get this child far from future exposure to the internet and a lot of the tech that’s increasingly creeping into our daily lives.

I have a 7 month old Granddaughter. Her parent's are going to struggle with that also. Me, I'm gonna feed her candy and spoil her rotten. You have a fun ride ahead. Miss the young days. mtmuley

I haven’t had any issues getting good info from the internet, personally. Search engines haven’t jammed me up as much as it apparently does some folks. 🤷‍♂️

What Neffa said is what I expect to hear more of, and we know that’s what B said in the OP for his arrow build so that’s friggin amazing it’s giving back reliable feedback. I don’t know how to use that chatbot 🤣

I wonder if these custom rifle build guys asked stuff that’s way over my head, if the chatbot would just tell them “fake news (😂)” or still agree that what they do is legitimate. Perhaps give them new ideas?

AI, chat got, isn't magic. It's essentially a jumbo search engine that formats it's answer for you. It's accuracy is 100% ties to the data you point it at. Arrow charts are online, so chatgpt should do this fine

Pretty close calculator. I'm building some new arrows and have been geeking out on the numbers along the way. At 9.1 GPI, my bare shaft weight was actually 263 on average vs the calculated 259.4. Probably just variability in the batch. Fully assembled with the components listed ended up right at 454gr. Shot it through a chronograph at 269 FPS. That was a couple feet out in front of the bow so maybe it's 274 right at launch? FOC was 12.5 which I'm happy with.

I 3d printed a little arrow squaring jig and color the ends of the arrow after the cut with a gray sharpie, then square them till all the sharpy is gone.

Also shot them bare shaft through paper to make sure they're knock tuned before adding fletching. My bow is shooting bullet holes in general but a few of the arrows needed the knocks twisted slightly to get perfect hole.

Next, I shoot them really close to see the natural spin out of the bow and add that helical or offset to the fletch so it's not fighting itself out of the bow.

This is the kind of chit that keeps me up at night. Stupid I know. But so damn expensive and so many options out there it's hard to settle on something.

One thing I'd say that is really important IMO, better to be over spined than under. I chased my tail with under spined arrows for the last 3 years. The one's I've recently built (correctly spined) consistently shoot perfect bullet holes.

Hahahaha, yes! Last night before turning in I said “I don’t know why I’m plotting arrow builds at 11pm.” Might as well whole ass it if I’m gonna ass it at all.

That calc is what I planned to enter component variables into as well. Also have 3D prints for a Dremel arrow cutting jig and squaring tool in the works. We’ve got a “makerspace” at the local library and it’s been fun to mess with.

Appreciate you posting up some comparisons against what’s out there on the web.

I’ll post a pic of my saw when I get a chance. 35$ from harbor freight

I had a gander at those little cut off saws. Did you use the 2”blade that it came with or a different grinding disc? I didn’t love the idea of having to remove the black plastic part of the blade guard/cover to use a 3” disc.
