Army son is heading to the 11th Airborne at JBER.

After thirty-some years wearing the US Army uniform, I will never get familiar with all the various and assorted and numerous acronyms.

'Sorry for ignorance ... but I have no idea where and what "JBER" is!

Anyhow, thanks to your son for his service.

Anchorage, Alaska.

Well he's Army going onto an Air Force base.... he is already in heaven :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: but yes the hunting is great there. I am hoping my son gets PCS there for his next duty station. He got the big green weenie after boot and shipped to TX instead of there like his contract stated, "needs of the Army".

My son was stationed at Fort Richardson in 25 ID 1/40 cav airborne back 05-07 with a tour in Iraq!

I was there from 05-13, in 1-501 PIR. 1-40 CAV back than was a bunch of BAMF. Hope your son is doing well!
He is doing well. Thx They had a tough time in the sandbox. He lost three warriors over there.

Are there any outdoor activities there?

Super excited!
I was in the 82d at Ft. Bragg in the early 80s. I put AK at the top of the list on my "Dream Sheet" for the very same reason - hunting and fishing opportunities!

Thank your son for his service.

I was stationed at JBER 2011-2014, it was the 4/25th INF ABN back then though. Sadly, I hadn’t taken up hunting yet at that time, but there’s lots of land on post. Only encounters with grizzlies I’ve ever had were out on FTXs haha

Thanks all!

For him to gain the 12 months residency so that I can go with him for big bear and sheep will be enough time for him to figure out if his work will allow for planning for draw-only units for sheep and big bears.

If not, we'll figure out something on the OTC tags.

Dad got stationed at Ladd Air Force base which became Ft Wainwright in 1960 I think. It was glorious as far as I was concerned. I was always poking around the base hunting and fishing. Alaska has changed since the late 50s and 60s but it is still the great land.
