Been guiding a group from Alabama, great bunch of guys, good fishermen. One of the guys has a disease that’ll kill him, had tremendous impact on his motor skills, lots of pain. Been able to get him into fish all week, a rewarding week for me. Yesterday loaded the Alabama crew in the Beaver and headed to a special place about 100 miles south. Fishing was good but tough on “Dave”. He was very tired and several times needed to lay down on the beach. The last fish he caught was a 32 inch Arctic Char. Glad I got to know this guy and his buddies who made it happen.

This is awesome. I had a similar experience with a guy I took fishing in Montana. It had been a life long dream of his to fish in Montana. I took him, he had the time of his life. A few months later he passed away from cancer. His wife said right up until his last day he talked about what a great time he had in Montana. He was a good man and I was honored to be able to help him fulfill a life-long dream.

When people think about the guiding profession most don’t consider how many times a season we take someone on the adventure they have dreamed about most of their lives, the one chance they can afford to take on such an adventure. For minimum wage, if I’m lucky, all their hopes dreams and aspirations of a trip to Alaska fall on the guide. Hell, it’s an honor to become part of “the family” for a week.
you did right by that guy Big Sky, take a bow you earned it.
