Hunted two different river corridors in SW Montana this weekend and only saw does and button bucks. It was coooold. Hopefully next weekend bucks might start to wake up a bit.

It will be same as Every year . Few small bucks will be going soon maybe even now but the peak rut will be about the 10th -20th of November

Having said that , Last year I hunted Montana something like the 10-18th of November and I’m totally convinced we missed the peak by leaving a couple days early , every year is a little different . Another year we were in same spot in central MT and we went like the 24-30 and it was well over with so one just never knows , the weather can help swing it a bit one way or another

I spotted this buck on a alfalfa field on a big private ranch yesterday. I look at that field at least once a week and this is the first I have seen him. It is getting to that time of year when the bucks move down out of the hills in anticipation of the rut. I am likely asking for too much, but I hope he makes the season so I can look for his antlers in the spring.DSCN2860.JPG

I live on a river bottom in eastern Montana and keep a an eye on the whitetails. We hadn’t been seeing any bucks until last evening. The largest of which was very aggressively rubbing saplings. Still pre rut but they are starting to think about it.

Saw Bucks chasing does and fighting Sunday evening. Hoping to get my chance at one of them this week.

I'm watching a mature whitetail pushing does around as I type this.

No doubt peak rut will happen the same time it always does, but it sure seems like this cold snap has a few bucks jumping the gun.

Agreed.

Got my chance on a Yellowstone river whitetail! Tarsel glands didn't smell but I'm sure he was getting ready to start rutting.

Heading to Eastern Montana on the 9th. Finding it hard to concentrate at work these days :). Doing my first solo trip, had a great time last year with 3 other guys. Solo trip will be a new experience for sure.
