Might have a chance to get stationed in Fallon. I know that Nevada offers all kinds of hunting opportunities and it allows me to be a resident and be close to a lot of the other states. How is it around Fallon? Is there any good hunting around the area or will it all be a couple hour trip to get into the hills? I know its a shot in the dark but maybe someone will have an answer. Thanks in advance.

Fallon isn't a bad spot and being a NV resident increases your odds of hunting sheep exponentially! The immediate Fallon area is typical of Nevada desert but an hour or two north, west, or east and you can be in great muley country, sheep country, and elk country. There is some great stuff right around Fallon (Stillwater mountain range) that holds sheep and muleys if you put in the time to learn the country. Plenty of bird hunting too if you're into it, Fallon has the Stillwater Nationall Wildlife Refuge which is a good spot for waterfowl and you can literally throw a dart at a map and go chase chukar anywhere around. If you have any specific questions I'm happy to answer to the best of my knowledge.

Mountainhawks pretty much summed it up. I live in Fallon, born and raised if you have questions.

Fallon is a cool town. I've lived in Carson City most of my life, and I could happily live in Fallon, its a great small town. I'm sure all the jets ripping around get old living there, but I just love the sound of freedom when rolling through. Fallon sits in the middle of great deer, elk, and speed goat areas, plus a ton of excellent upland and waterfowl territory.

The jets are only bad when they're flying low and slow over the house. I do get a kick out of the people that move next to the base and then complain about the noise. Or their neighbors chickens. Or the dairy smells in the spring.

If I get to go to Fallon it will be the second time I've been stationed on a Naval Air Station. I was on the east coast and we would have to stop talking in our office whenever an F35 was about to take off.

I assumed that you must be military or a civilian contractor, as much as I like Fallon, it's no high on the 'I've gotta move there' list for most people.

I’m military, there is only 2 places I can get stationed in the west, one is Denver and it is closed and Fallon will he open when I’m picking orders.

Not much in Fallon but it's a nice small base. Think it has a community feel. Good shooting opportunities. Tahoe is an easy drive. I'd take orders there. Can't speak hunting because I was there for training not stationed there.

Too bad Denver billet is closed. Wish I had an option for CO but loving AZ while I'm here.
