Oelwein Man Killed While Turkey Hunting Saturday

OELWEIN – An Oelwein man was fatally injured Saturday while turkey hunting in Fayette County.

Michael Adams, 63, was hit in the face and chest area by shot from a 12-gauge shotgun fired from another hunter in his hunting party at approximately 3 p.m. Saturday north of Maynard. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
 
Very tragic. Whether it was poor firearm safety, or a complete accident, it doesn't change the fact it is tragic for everyone involved. RIP.
 
My dad helped a man a few years ago that was shot in the face/chest during turkey season. Dad was in his shop working and kept hearing a man yell for help from the neighbors property. He went and investigated and found the man covered in blood. He called 911, loaded him up and started toward the hospital, meeting the ambulance on the way. The man was very lucky. He survived getting hit with #6 shot from about 40 yards away. Dad helped the game wardens find the shooting site, the shell casing, and the tree the man was sitting by when he was shot. Several days later, the shooter turned himself in. Be careful out there everyone.
