6.5 CM as a hunting cartridge... why?

I own a 260, 6.5 CM, 7mm-08, and 270. All in the name of scientific research, of course, because one HAS to be better than the rest, just gotta figure out which. The problem is that replicating my experimental results with each cartridge on the same animal has been difficult as they all seem to die in the first trial no matter which I start with.

I love mine. It’s too easy to shoot. It flat out shoots clovers with Hammers all day. It dials and slaps steal. I’ve never even come close to losing a critter (<deer), but also believe it isn’t an elk round. I haven’t had anything run over near a hundred yards.

Is it perfect? Nope, but no cartridge is or will be. It’s a great pronghorn/deer cartridge. There are loads of them.

Explain? I use believe as an opinion. There aren’t any hard and fast rules. Some have tried to create them. It just doesn’t carry the momentum, mass, and energy to decrease that room for error to where I want it. A 1/2 bath?

Yes I can hit hit bullseyes all day in the “right” situation. What about cross canyon at 423 yards in a 20 mph wind that is variable at the bull of a lifetime?

The idea of placing a quality bullet right where you want it in all conditions is convenient. Hunting isn’t convenient.

A round for "most" deer and pronghorn? I'll agree with that. Just like the .243 before it.

I think terminal ballistic performance trumps head stamp everyday.

I personally cannot wait to shoot an elk with the original - 6.5x55 Swede - with a good, well constructed, bullet that does what it’s supposed to do with boring regularity.

Your right. When I miss my ideal shot placement I want it to be with my 30-06 with 180 ttsx or with an eldx. Shoot even those federal blue boxes
