5 Things about your dog

5)My youngest lived in a one room orphanage until we brought her home at a year and a half. Due to the lack of stimuli, she really didn’t have much personality and had an emptiness to her eyes. Not sure how else to describe it. She immediately connected with the dog and it really brought out her joy, and eventually a big, vibrant personality and connection with us. No question it was the key that opened up her heart. We didn’t know we needed it, but thankfully we had it. For that reason I will forever be grateful for Freja, and will be a mess when she passes.
Got allergies I dont have acting up a little...good looking dog to boot.

1: He's the goodest boy.
2: He's been a great big brother to my son
3: He won't lay on the bed I put in my shop for him. Only concrete.
4: His first retrieve was a crippled Pheasant.
5: He got me through a lot of tough times following deployments and separation.

1. If my lab went to school he would ride the short bus.

2. Will go full on "50 Shades of Gray" on ANY stuffed animal... but has always had a special place in his heart for moose.

3. Legit knows sign language.... like understands it and can actually make a few signs himself. "Please" is his go to because my wife feeds him from the table...

4. Loves going hunting and will find and flush birds but wouldn't touch a duck or pheasant if you hid it in a stuffed moose

5. Only critter I have ever shot that he retrieved was this fish..... what a dumbass.

P.S. pretty sure my wife loves him more than she loves me.

I had a lab years ago that failed obedience school twice. I still loved that damn dog.

Has to lick the fish before you put it in the live well.

20190413_105210.jpg
Loves playing in the water.

2017111995094613.jpg
Loves to pheasant hunt but will not retrieve for shit.

20180324_190544.jpg
Has a weird tennis ball fetish.

One other thing depending on what mood he puts me in will come to either name Drake or d**ckhead.

He can't retrieve ducks or geese
The average chipmunk will kick his butt
I tell everyone he's a mini lab I had 4 tell we lost charlie Tammy always had shih tzu dogs
I didn't want another dog after Charlie
But he's so much fun everything's a game to him even running in circles around my feet in yard

1. He’s a nearly all black German shepherd but my wife first sent me a text of his pic as a puppy saying look at this cute Lab puppy. I said I really like him but that’s not a lab.
2. He is the first inside dog I’ve ever had in nearly 32 years of living.
3. He likes sticks and limbs that fall from our oak trees more than he does any of the toys the kids got him at Petsmart.
4. We named him Bear because he was all black and fluffy like a bear cub with a small white chest patch similar to a lot of black bears.
5. He is also the first dog I’ve ever had that wasn’t a livestock or hunting dog. Always wanted a German shepherd though. 91CFAF98-B062-4B2E-B0FB-225346B020EA.jpeg67FE53FA-9B94-4A61-A42F-C09D5BEC1E6C.jpeg7E1E5A46-E44C-4C9B-B118-A515D77353A1.jpeg

1. Her background is a mystery; she went as a puppy from a shelter in Statesboro, GA to a friend's apartment until he realized he wasn't able to care for a dog and asked me to take her. Breed, lineage, etc is pretty unknown but I have some guesses.

2. Was first named Minerva after a figure from Roman mythology. I didn't care for it at first but it really kinda stuck when she was a pup so it stayed.

3. Walks with a really unique gait that's unlike other dogs I've been around. It's hard to describe, some people say it's horse-like but that's not quite right either. Others just say it's "ladylike."

4. Can tell something is up because I just took a picture of her and am looking at her occasionally while I type this.

5. Has been my dog since some time in 2011. Good with people, dogs and cats, but has really always been a one owner dog at heart. Loves me like she loves her next breath and I try my best to live up to it.

Are you talking about me?
Most even tempered Ridgeback I've ever had.
Sticks with me most everywhere.
Likes everyone I do and ignores the people I don't.
Able to tell time. (Food related as well as evening treats)
Hears vehicles coming up our road long before they are insight.
At 4 years old he's entering a second puppy hood.
He lets me finish my morning coffee before demanding his breakfast. Emphasis on demanding.

Definitely got some cow dog in her. Heeler probably.

Great thread @JEL !

1) he's my first dog
2) but he may be the second coming, because he loves you and he loves me and he loves dogs and he loves kids and he loves everyone and he loves everything...
3) ... especially shoes. he can't properly show his affection without prancing about with something in his mouth, usually a shoe
4) He must rest his chin on the driver of the vehicle. Always the driver, not the passenger.
5) named after the late great rapper NATE DOGG!!

1)I didn’t want him but the family brought him home and now I take care of him; just like I told them.
2)He has allergies real bad and his med’s cost over $200 every 45 days.
3)He doesn’t know how to chit in one pile. He duck walks while going.
4)He barks at the mailman every day.
5)He loves to run in the woods behind our house.

Dog #2. Farm dog. She is just the opposite of dog #1.
1. Would hunt till she literally tipped over dead
2. Off switch didn't work until she was about 7
3. Is loyal to a fault to my son. She pouts when he is gone.
4. Prey drive is insane
5. Has learned that chickens are not prey!

Some beautiful pups on here. Truly man’s best friend!

1) I may never want another dog that isn’t a golden retriever. Intelligent, calm and can’t be tested with temptation. If I say stay, he stays until told otherwise.

2) Kinda like the “dog and the moose” he has a special place in his heart for a fuzzy pillow. If he don’t lay her down daily, it effects #1

3) He can find a hidden shedhorn within 100 yard radius, (around the house) unless there is deer tracks and poop around. Then he just smells that instead.

4) had surgery to remove a tooth just a few months old.

5) you can leave any dish of food sitting around and he will not touch it. Period.

5.5) I think he understands and trusts us more than we understand or trust him..
- that changes a little every day, though, for the better.
