2024 College Football šŸˆ Season starts tomorrowā€¦. Yee Yee

At the end of the day it doesnā€™t guarantee anything, one injury to the right guy can wreck a season , and all the big time programs in the country are playing the NIL game.

As for TEZ Johnson, itā€™s so random how he ended up at Oregon because nobody in the country knew about Tez Johnson until Bo Nix joined Oregon from Auburn 2 years ago, he told coach Lanning that he needed to bring TEZ over from Troy, his adopted brother, and ends up being a Duck šŸ¦† legend out of nowhere , crazy

Iā€™m really curious to see what the committee does with bama and smu, I can see a pretty decent argument from both sidesā€¦

NIL is the way it is these days, I don't hate the Ducks for doing what they do with the Nike $$$$. Just tough to see college ball going completely mercenary in the current atmosphere. Oregon and Ohio have some big donors putting up some serious coin, and that has certainly contributed to their success, it's the smart thing to do these days, but Pandora's box has certainly been opened, and lord only knows where this will stop and how much the market will bear.

The Lions went up against the best team that Nike can buy with $23 million and were still in it despite the worst officiating I've ever witnessed in a college game let alone a championship game. I'd say the ducks were spotted at least 10 by the referees, if you guys feel good about that win, congrats I guess.
I'm never THAT guy, but the lack of calls on Oregon was literally unbelievable.
The 2 ints were a killer, but when at least a half dozen egregious penalties aren't called, well I have the words but not for a public internet forum.
The Lions have nothing to be ashamed of, and I doubt anyone in the bracket wants to come see a hornets nest in Happy Valley in 2 weeks.
Rant over
We better have leads in the games or we will lose due to coaching decisions in crucial moments.

I hate this quote so freaking much and I never wanna hear the coach say it again, but he says it a lot!

ā€œWe played the No. 1 team in the country and had a chance to win at the end,ā€ Franklin said. ā€œWe're going to learn from it.ā€

2 things here..1. that's a loser mentality and 2. you are Penn State your supposed to win not compete. And a 3rd thing just because...we did not have a chance to win at the end because some idiot thought it was a good idea to go for two after a TD with an entire quarter to play.

Yeah if SMU gets left out after that, teams will have to decide in the future is it better to compete for a conference championship game or in the playoffs....starters getting rested, tanking games etc. etc.

But I certainly won't be surprised if they get left out all the same
They need to go to 16 teams, no byes, and drop the conference title games. If you are #17 at that point who cares, there will always be a 17, 33, 65, 129, etc.

1. How old are you? PSU hasn't been top of the heap relavent for decades. Fine to root for them and have hopes, but no reason to expect them to beat a #1. They are 3-19 in the last 30+ years against top 5 opponents.

2. Going for it when they did made little sense, but it cost them nothing until after they scored the TD to get within 2 and then failed the 2 point attempt a second time. It had ZERO effect on their ability "to win at the end".

I like the simplicity it brings but hate the idea of including even more teams, it should be difficult to play for a national title

16 isnā€™t many when you start with 134, and probably is necessary given the very unbalanced schedules these teams play. Getting to top 16 will be plenty difficult. 16 out of 134 would be one of the smallest playoff percentages in any major sport I can think of.

Umm u can't win in at the end if ya need 9 points. But okay.

As a life long Duck šŸ¦† fan I do feel lucky that the guy that created Nike is an Oregon grad and wants to see them successful

PSU is still in this, still very much alive and has had 11 win seasons 3 years in a row, the first time since 1982. Many remember those as the glory days of JoePa, guess what, we're in some pretty good years right now. I'm no Franklin fan boy, but from where I sit, the program has grown and seen continual improvement in his years at PSU. Believe me, I'm as frustrated as any PSU fan at the lack of wins against Michigan, Ohio State and now the ducks. But at the end of the day, there is only one number one team in the nation. It's looking like the ducks are going to be that team this year, but I also feel like PSU even in a loss made a statement and put the rest of the playoff bracket on notice.
Maybe they go out early, I hope not, but at the end of the season, having had a chance to play for the #1 spot in the B1G championship and going 11-1 in the regular season is not bad by any measure. I'm going to remember this as a great season at the end of the day, they don't come around every year, and chances are with the loss of talent coming in the draft and Kotelnicki probably going elsewhere, I don't expect a repeat soon. We are.

I think there is zero chance Ducks win three more games. They aren't dominant on offense or defense or special teams and have a pretty inexperienced coach.

Fwiw, Ohio State beat Penn State at Penn State. Ducks beat Ohio State and Boise State at home. They won't have home field advantage in any game and if a SEC team or any East Coast team makes it into the NC, they'll be playing a home game for that other team. The NC is in Atlanta this year.

Good luck though.

I feel like his consistent big dollars over an extended time - as well as the splashy marketing spin he pushed for - made the Ducks consistently relevant even though they did not have a strong starting brand. But that is only a piece of the puzzle - the coaches and players still have to hit the field and do it. Lots of schools with "relevance" in their brand have lagged behind for years - looking at you Nebraska ;)

It still waters down regular season games, the results donā€™t matter as much. When thereā€™s more room for losses players will play to that standard, look at this yearā€™s results vs the 4 team playoff in years past.

I listened to several different recruiting podcasts on singing day , and as for now it sounds like the NIL money the market on positions is kinda stable and kids are getting relatively the same dollar amounts from each school that are recruiting them , was my understanding from the shows I listened to

I hated the 4 team -- lots of years the 5 or 6 would have had a real chance at beating the 1 2 3 or 4. And having to go 10-3 with a decent strength of schedule is hardly "weakening". To have one loss take you out is it not good. I loved seeing the Giants beat the Patriots. If you just want the regular season best win-loss then no need for a playoff at all - just go back to the pre-playoff days.

I have said they should flip the format between FCS and FBS. In FCS 24 teams go, but there are only 6 programs in the nation that have even a 1% chance of winning with 2 of them having 95% chance. There are almost never upsets in the first 3 rounds. It is a waste. Where in the FCS I do think top 16 or 24 would make for some really fun upsets. The nice thing about 24 is that Army would get to play ISU first round, not Oregon, so you actually have some decent first round games. Plus, more games at home stadiums are super fun for the fans.
