2019 MS Gator Season

We had a good 2019 MS Public Water Gator Season. Tagged 4 10'8" or better with the biggest being 12'7" and over 700lbs.

12'7"

How do you hunt those things? Snag with big treble hooks? Shoot them when you see their eyes on the water or on the bank? Set lines? Im curious

These were during our public water season here in MS. For public water tags you have to have a snare around their neck or leg before you dispatch them. The only legal methods of catching them are snatch hooks (hand thrown or rod/reel), harpoon (with attached line and/or buoy), snare (hand or pole type), bowfishing equipment (with attached line and/or buoy). We typically hang them with large weighted treble hooks on rod and reel. We use a harpoon once we get them close if we know it's a gator we are going to kill (once you harpoon them or shoot them with an arrow you have to keep them). We have used all of these techniques but it's most rod and reel.

Publichunter,

Is the 12’ 7” off the Mississippi River? Saw where a whopper with those measurements was killed in SW Mississippi. Figured it came off the River.
Congrats on a great season.

It was. That wasn't this gator that was being publicized but pretty much the same gator in size.
