    Beginner Trapper Success

Well, it appears someone was not too pleased to find one of my traps. The cd I had hanging as a visual was broken into pieces over the trap, the trap was set off and my camera was gone. Was planning on moving the trap anyways so now seemed like a good time to pick it up before they decided to...

My taxidermist was very surprised when I brought in a grey as he didn’t know we had many around. I did catch this big red on cam looking at my trap.

    Trapping mentor

Hopefully, you find a mentor. I started trapping this year and was lucky to have a guy I could call with questions but also used youtube a fair amount.

Yup, footholds and snares can only be used with special permits for private land.

Sadly yes. The worst part is we have a ton of coyotes around here, but no way to catch them. I have tried calling but no success so far.

Both male. I don't believe we have tons of grey fox in the mountains and I want to foxes on cats now so I'm going to stop trapping that one spot until next year.

Well, that same box set was closed today with another large fox. This one had a much longer tail as well. Going to pick up the trap tomorrow and change my focus to bobcats.

    Bow hunting

As far as bulls with injuries from hunters I have heard from multiple people about finding arrows in elk as well as 30 cal bullets that were stopped by the shoulder so it's important to remember how tough they are no matter what weapon you use.

    Father and Son's First Bull

I usually hunt archery season by myself which resulted in a missed bull this season but I hope to have my dad draw a first season hunt so he can experience some rutting action next year.

The worst part is seeing all the coyote sign around my traps knowing its impossible to catch them without footholds. Just need to work on my calling for them.

As hunting season died down this year I found myself with a lot of time on my hands and decided to take up trapping. Being from Colorado I can only use cage traps which I knew would be a little more difficult to get predators to go into and that I couldn't set many out. I got 2 XL Duke Cage...

    Wild sheep and disease

This isn't from those states but last year when checking my ewe in at the Colorado Springs office the biologist said the Pikes Peak herd was struggling with lone rams going into residential type areas and interacting with domestic sheep and then returning to the herd with pneumonia.
