So you can do what is called "dispersed camping" in some areas of the national forest and BLM. Check their website to make sure that you are OK to dispersed camp in that location. If you want a bathroom and things that provide more in terms of comfort, you can try and camp in a FS campground or...
I recommend going to Custer State Park and spending some time there. It is phenomenal. Also, check out the Blue Bell Lodge in Custer State Park for bison burgers. Great place and ambiance. I go there every time I come through the Black Hills.
I would also recommend doing your next hunt with a rifle vs. a bow. Rifles are far more lethal and less likely to involve a situation similar to what you had happen here. Once you have a few better experiences with a rifle, going back to the bow will be much easier, in my opinion.
When I drew my first antelope tag last year, I saw literally 2 other hunting vehicles the whole time and approximately 10,000 pronghorn. It was great. I think you are going to have a great hunt.
I think it is a good area - I have seen a lot of deer across 131 in the Yampa area so I am sure GMU 15 is good as well. Welcome to CO. You'll do great.
To those who dispute the man made climate change issues, I do not understand why you refuse to accept the clear scientific consensus. The earth is warming and we are the ones causing it by burning fossil fuels. CO2 is the primary cause of the increased temperature and we are increasing the...
I think your data makes it clear that Colorado is providing too much in terms of non-resident hunting to the detriment of residents and the quality of the hunting experience. The statement that Colorado bears the brunt of most NR elk hunting in the west as a "pro" for the national elk hunting...
I stayed at New Fork Lake at the Narrows Campground when I went up. It was not busy at all, very secluded, and the fishing was very good on New Fork Lake itself (not so much on the river). That being said, the scenery at Green River Lakes blew our campsite out of the water.
Anyone hunted it before and have any tips? I will be rifle hunting with my .30-06 and think I will head up for a first attempt in the 3rd week of September. I have a doe/fawn tag, rather than a buck tag.
I agree - this is from the 2016 Republican Party Platform: "Congress shall immediately pass universal legislation providing for a timely and orderly mechanism requiring the federal government to convey certain federally controlled public lands to states. We call upon all national and state...
Western CO
I am out on the western slope and will be bow hunting for the first time since I was about 15 this year. I am probably going to be more of a weekend warrior but I would be up for meeting up over an extended weekend. I am mostly looking at units out here, though. Feel free to send me...
