Lake City co elk

My brother and I drawed been studying maps, onx talked to biologist,got some spots marked to check, heading to lake city colorado this Saturday to do some scouting for a wk, don't have to give hunny holes but would appreciate any guidance can't wait to get into mtns

From the top of Uncompahgre Peak or Wetterhorn you get an excellent visual of the summer elk range. And thousands of sheep. Be down before the afternoon lightning.

OP, never hunted elk in that vicinity but beaucoup family summer vacations with elk sightings both sides of the Slum....wish I could help with better info. Good luck.

I have seen a ton of sign in the willows around Silver Creek near the Handies/Redcloud trailhead.

Only been there once but don't be afraid to look for elk at all elevations. I saw them from 9k ft and up.

Thankyou sounds like the beetles have really hit about tree line and elk are staying in trees eating cause sunshine getting through
