Fantastic write up Big Fin, you have a great way of sometimes not shooting/cutting the tag but still getting people to understand that killing isn't a pre requisite for having a good time and showing appreciation of the hunt. Not many guys get that it seems, but plenty of Hunt Talkers do...
Good luck, hope you turn up one of the better bucks. Must be tough with hunters 'claiming' their personal deer on public land. Can't wait till i get in that situation with a tag i draw some day in the states, be game on..big time.
Good one Buzz for bringing this up and letting us know. Be a great switch in supporters if RMEF were to take over and side kick the SFW scammers.
Don't have time to look much at other forums, ill let Oak keep them honest on MM.
wow, what a hunt...ive had some big walks over long distances, but i can imagine with packs loaded up in sheep country this would have to be a hunt to sit back and tell the grandkids about! unreal, be great to hear more about it.
I agree if your confident of redrawing that tag, roll it back to the fish and game, hunt locally and enjoy that once in a lifetime hunt in that unit when everything levels out. As I'm sure you are aware, the hunting and antler growth could be off the charts for the next handful of years post fire.
Great effort guys...hows the last pic, thats one for the trophy room right there...well done, looks like he is pulling his weight under the pack, stud effort all-round.
Great photos and account of your hunt!
Just interested to know, why didn't you pack up your fly camp gear and hike into the rocky basin where the monster buck was? I tend to have the motto that i never leave big animals to go and try to find other big animals that you aren't sure are there...
Use both models the smaller one and the barracuda, both are excellent in the field, i use them and then butchers knives for heavier work, but the barracuda comes close to be the best all round knife for hunting i can think of, and i use knives in the field most weeks of the year.
It was then time to head back south, and we only had a morning left to hunt before we had to get sorted to fly home the following day.
We looked over a couple dead heads that were very nice. An extra off the back end made this deer unique.
This stag was a typical big long antlered rusa for...
Its become an annual pilgrimage for me to go to New Caledonia to hunt their rusa deer. Its an exotic place for an Aussie. They drive on the 'wrong' side of the road, speak French, eat different foods, live in a tropical climate, and pretty much live a relaxed islander type of life, similar to...
Good luck on the hunt.
I'll give you some advice, don't come on here expecting a heap of info with your first couple of posts, no introduction and no previous history of writing hunt reports or willingness to help others.
Its a great sight, Randy puts in a lot of time and effort to keep it...
