Richard,
Certainly something to be said for that! I've been shooting a .308Win Sako 85 Laminated Varmint for a few years now. I did take an Elk and 3 Mule Deer over the past 4 years with it. It is a pain to pack up the hills, but it's the rifle I have the most confidence in at the moment...
Advice from someone who has been running an 8mm hunting rifle since 2006. There are significantly more options for bullets in both .308 and .338 diameters... I still wish Winchester would have done the right thing to start with and released the .325WSM as a .338WSM... The 8mm slugs are...
4 years of hunting from 12-16 with a 7-08 and I'm thinking seriously about going back to one...
Only add one critter... 2nd year hunting Raghorn Bull Elk 225yds 150Gr Partition. There are plenty more where that came from...
Which LRAB's have you tested that came up short, and what are you running them out of? I have been thinking for a while that the BC's may be a bit inflated, but from what I'd heard from others, they had been close within reason. I only ask because I'm really considering running some in the...
My dad has a 2 goats and a bighorn that were done by Atcheson's taxadermy in Butte, MT. As if their website isn't enough, they are one of the few taxidermists to do work for the Smithsonian. Should I ever shoot anything in MT worthy of hanging on the wall, it will go to them.
One of the goats...
I also have a single LED Princeton TEC with filters, previous model to EOS. Runs on 3 AAA's and produces plenty of concentrated light ~90 Lumens. To be honest, I'm a huge fan on single LED high quality lights. In my finding multi led headlamps and flashlights don't tend to provide the same...
Good Choice! I've yet to meet a CZ long arm I don't like. I've been running a CZ ringneck double 12 since 2004 and it's yet to let me down.
First shotgun I was ever able to carry 50% with through a bird season. it was 32 shells fired for 16 Huns and Sharptails.
I spent a few years in a...
While I don't own one, I've had a good chance to fondle and play with a few rifles from MRC. On the American Standard, I was honestly a bit disapointed with the rifle. The fit and finish wasn't really noticeably better than a CZ 550, Kimber 84/8400 or modern production M70. The action was...
Ok, I personally don't have any experience with the SR 45. Much less with +p loads, but It would not surprise me if you needed to replace the recoil spring for them to cycle properly with a +P load. A stiffer recoil spring will help suck up the extra energy from the slide recoiling faster due...
Rooster,
What sort of firearm are you carrying in .45ACP?
Personally, I wouldn't carry an ACP for any toothy critters larger than a Mt. Lion. I did some penetration testing in water a couple years back, and in Water my Sig P220 Long slide with Hornady TAP 230Gr XTP in a +P load only out...
Looks like it's simply a CZ 97 rechambered in 10mm Auto. Were it up to me, if you want to put that sort of money into a 10mm... Get a Sig. Or, get a Glock model 20 for Significantly less... The Glock 20 will be as reliable (if not more) than any other semi-auto out there.
I carry a 5" Smith and Wessen Performance Center 8shot .357 mag. full of Buffalo Bore 180gr Hard Cast. I personally don't have any qualms about a .357 with proper ammo on MT grizzlies, though like you said; Spray is the first line of defense.
You mentioned a .454 Casull. That cartridge will...
Hope this comes down in this instance. If one reads the story it also sounds like "Controlled substances" were also seized. Hopefully they can tack some narcotics charges on top of everything else.
Zach,
I have no idea if IMR has any on their website, but http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/ does. They have .308 loads for 4166 with many traditional slugs.
I'm really interested to try IMR 4166 in a .308. Hodgdon lists 45.1Gr Max load for a .308 win with a 180gr slug to clock 2663. If that's accurate, that sounds like a winner!!
