Exactly why I went with 7mm. Versatility, flat shooting and plenty of knockdown power.
Though I like the 325 wsm, ammo availability shut the door on it for me.
A lot of folks swear by the .270 but I personally felt it was a little light for elk hunting.
I am happy with my decision.
I shouldn't even being adding a post here but will. I am working on 48. I had two heart attacks at 38 and have three stents. Dad passed at 46 with a heart attack.
Also at that same time I had 98% blockage in my pulmonary artery where it "Y's" to each lung.... that happened twice in six...
I have two VX2 scopes and absolutely love them... never one issue even after banging and dragging one of them over and over on a sheer rock face (unknowingly) while it was lashed to my pack. Scratched up a little but did not affect its performance.
Having said that.... my friend has a Nikon...
Pretty much anywhere you go in the state. My favorite are those shot with a 12 gauge slug (in the kill zone) thru the deer silhouette on a deer crossing sign .... lol.
I just accept the fact that it is going to cost me around $1500 to go elk hunting. It is something I love doing and I start an "elk fund" the week I return from hunting.
I cant say I agree with the R vs NR price structure, but that isn't for me to determine. I plan to do it as long as my body...
First of all welcome! I'm new too and have found there to be a lot of intelligent/ experienced people here that are willing to help.
Definitely pull the trigger you will be glad you did. In addition to all the above, spend as much time as you can afford right here. It is nearly unlimited...
Good episode!
Cant win em all.... it had to be exhilarating having the opportunities you had. It was for me just watching it.
I usually record and watch them in the morning prior to leaving for work. Bad thing is my wife always has something to talk about as she is getting ready to...
Maybe people just don't know what to do with it.
Perhaps they could treat it like a parking meter of sorts...
You could:
1. Take a bag
2. Pick up poop
3. Weigh it
4. Swipe CC which triggers the hatch to open
5. Dispose
There! all are happy....
They did the same thing with the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw didn't they?
I was using the TBBC in my 7mm but only have a half dozen or so custom loads left so I am switching to Barnes TTSX this year on the recommendation of others.
Really liked both the deep curl and TBBC. Refuse to shoot factory...
The whole Cats in the Cradle thing....
Life is too short not to take the time.
I happen to be one wishing the phone would ring again...
Sounds like he still has a bit to endure..... Hoping the best for him.
I think it is a great idea and would love to see them. Very interested in where it all began so to speak.
Though I am new to the site and your productions, I have really enjoyed both. I was telling the wife last night, as we were watching salute to a marine, how I really like your approach...
Dug this photo up of when I started the bow. There has been a lot of things happen since I started to include moving so it has been on hold.
I did go get it out of storage last night and should be able to get back on it by the weekend. You can see one of the checks but there is also one...
Not sure if they go that far south but Sombrero Ranch rents pack and saddle horses (though I don't have much confidence in the saddle horses I have seen from there).
We used to rent their pack horses and never had any trouble. They bring grain and hay along with them, that is, at a premium...
Guess I will chime in too since I missed the original survey...
In our group of 8 we have:
2- 7mm RM
2- 300 WSM
1- .45-70
1- 06
1- 308
1- 300 WM
On occasion one of the 300 WSM gets traded out for a .280 R
All of which have taken elk.
Thank you guys!
You know, I never considered wrapping the limbs with sinew (brings up another ?).... now that you mention it, I may be able to save the stave as the check runs the length -not across. The worst that can happen is that it wont work and I would have to do it again- practice makes...
"Bring em in for a bow shot. "
We have used this tactic in Colorado as well during rifle season in the dark timber after the shooting starts..... have had good success with it.
Good luck on your Wyoming hunt, it sounds like a lot of fun.
