Podcast on Montana Mule Deer ideas

Limited entry may be helpful for one unit, but it does push hunter pressure around & focuses it on general districts with public lands, leading to greater crowding on those accessible lands. If we are continuing to lose properties in block management, and more limited entry happens rather than...

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

Fewer acres enrolled, more displacement from limited entry & being in the hot spot for hunting leads to increased pressure. https://montanafreepress.org/2024/11/27/block-management-continues-slow-decline-despite-increased-payment-cap/

    Fun day!

When I was about 18 & working for my father I was this kid. After my 43 brilliant idea he looked at me and said "I've been doing this for 20 years. If there's a better $*)Q!#@$ way, don't you think I would have found it?" He had a way with words.

    AZ hound hunting ban petition

Apparently nobody at CBD has talked to a houndsmen or upland hunter about what happens when wolves & sporting dogs meet.

    Montana season structure proposal 2.0

Because this is a thread about season structure, not property tax. There will be significant number of bills dealing with property tax this session. Many of them will be looking at what you have issues with, but from what I've seen - the solution would disincentivize groups like American...

2 months till Opener for the King

That seems like a solid idea. I know one of our troupe just picked up a nice little Heym in 6.5 Swede. @VikingsGuy can bring his plastic crap too. Everyone likes a beater sig.

No, just a spitzer from Buffalo Arms. .318 diameter. I was using the woodliegh 200 grain round nose but it didn't feed from the en bloc clip. The spitzers are perfect for it. Fast & smooth action and it recoils like a beast. Weighs around 6.5 pounds.

1888 Commission Rifle, made by CH Hanel around 1900 for hunting mouflon & chamois. 8mm Mauser, shooting a 200 grain spitzer at a mild velocity (2300 fps). Some Nazi owned it before a god-fearing American GI liberated it and brought it home in 45. Dad picked it up in the early 70's.

2 months till Opener for the King

Not a damned thing moving. Third time here & I'm giving up on this spot for good. Got home to find the dog managed to lick the scab off the incision when my wife answered the door. 90 seconds w/o supervision. Then the brown dog pushes the black one down tearing out the door after nothing...

    Miss fire.

Could be a gunked up firing pin. How cold was it, and how liberally do you use oil in cleaning the rifle?

    Montana season structure proposal 2.0

Comparing hunting season structures to child endangerment is a bit much. If we eliminate the hyperbole and focus on the proposal and what is achievable, it's a much better discussion.

    Montana season structure proposal 2.0

The group was self selected from Hunt Talk members. Citizen groups are a long-standing tradition in Montana's conservation history. There were no land managers involved in the Rocky MTN Front Heritage Act, for example. That was a broad mix of public land users who worked with ngo's to develop a...
