The fact is that our wildlife is being grossly mismanaged by the agency we pay to manage them.
The commission needs to know that they've gone too far with this.
Let them know by the 13th if you disagree with these hunts and the accompanying regulation changes that were never put out for public...
You are right that the access to where the elk are is poor, I apologize for picking nits like that.
It was an absolutely incredible elk unit not that long ago, and with 200-400 bull tags being used primarily on public land, it's going to be an even bigger joke than what it's been lately. I just...
This link, which was in the first post of this thread- http://fwp.mt.gov/doingBusiness/insideFwp/commission/meetings/agenda.html?coversheet&topicId=56977130&fbclid=IwAR2aB0q-Ymh6IlWbEW7dD-Y77ymjU5uUHrP845AG3DDf2X5Zuve3CxdzvXs
They are going to give out 200 permits in 2020, with the ability to...
They won't, but I see zero issue with making seasons and tags very, very liberal.
I would love to have wolf season overlap with spring bear like Idaho, for entirely selfish reasons. I also wish this included the parts of region 2 that have a surplus of wolves.
I'll sit by and wait for pictures of these bachelor herds of 200 bulls. If that's true that's 20-40k worth of sheds they'll pick up this spring, on top of the lease they get from Armell's Creek for the hunting rights. I think they'll be okay.
Room to work in one direction, but not the other...
Also of note in unit 417- they have been killing bulls on damage hunts this winter. I don't know what's going on in region 4 right now, but I don't like it.
It's all perspective I guess.
While the route you picked might not be doable, the hill is definitely huntable. I hunt hillsides for whitetail that steep all the time, buy I don't take routes like that. Poke around a bit and you'll figure out a way up there.
You do have to get over the idea...
The slope would suck, but doable. About a million variables that you can't tell from that screenshot though. Looks like that ridge probably has cliffs, it's a north face so what's the timber/brush situation, etc.
Also just from topo alone it doesn't look your gain much from a hunting...
