    Relocation For High Three Retirement

When living in Anchorage, my wife and I never missed an opportunity to joke about the "not valid in Alaska and Hawaii" disclaimer whenever a t.v. commercial would talk about some sale or discount.

    Relocation For High Three Retirement

When I worked for the feds in Anchorage, the government was in the middle of switching from COLA to locality pay. I was still early enough in my career I didn't pay attention to the difference much but folks were telling me locality pay counted towards your retirement whereas COLA did not. I...

    Upland hunting hearing protection

I've had tinnitus for several decades. I know what you mean, it's such a constant I don't notice it most times. I do wear hearing aids but due to their design they're not a physical barrier to sound waves so I can't turn them off as a method to block out sound.

    Upland hunting hearing protection

I think if you lose one you're starting over from scratch. I doubt Phonak keeps the impression of your ear canal on file but I didn't ask. I'm almost 2 years in with mine, they seem to be holding up well. I use them mostly for skeet and trap shooting. When rifle shooting at the range I do double...

    Upland hunting hearing protection

My audiologist took a custom mold of my ears and ordered these for me. Not cheap ($200ish) but they're worth it. I can have a normal conversation with them in. https://www.phonak.com/en-us/hearing-devices/earplugs/for-professionals

    What's on the smoker today?

Bourbon pecan pie. Turns out you can bake a pie on a smoker. And pulled pork, just because.

    Woodworking Hunt Talkers?

Finished a gift box for a friend. I like them enough that I'll include the liquor. Some Pennsylvania cherry I've been moving around the west for the last 20 years.

    Eastern SD-Sharptail?

They get difficult to hunt later in the season. Most guys are focused on pheasants by then and don't bother hunting sharp tails.

    Eastern SD-Sharptail?

Fort Pierre National Grasslands an hour northwest of Chamberlain is your best bet.

    Woodworking Hunt Talkers?

I turned a pile of wine barrel staves into an end grain butcher block. I was hoping for something bigger but ran out of wood. Probably for the better as this one is close to 35 lbs. This project used more glue and required more sanding than I care to do again for a long while. I still have one...

What Makes A Fire More Beneficial Than Destructive?

Here are a couple of photos taken this summer in the high severity (red areas on the imagery) of this map. 12 years post fire. Lots of aspen regeneration, lots of forage, and lots of elk. An absolute PITA to walk through. Even the high severity burns recover, sometimes it's just not on the time...

Can’t sell taxidermy on Facebook Marketplace?

Same with rifle scopes. I see them for sale all the time in my local area on Marketplace but my post gets removed immediately. Even if I don't use the words rifle, firearm, hunting, etc. I even used 'optic' instead of scope, didn't matter.

    What's on the smoker today?

I'm going to try the same process with a tri tip. If I can ever find a tri tip at my grocery store.

    What's on the smoker today?

I smoked a 2.5 lb chuck roast yesterday. Treated it just like a brisket for seasoning, smoke temp, wrapping, etc. It turned out juicy and tender. Tasted fine but not quite the taste of a brisket.
