How far west into South Dakota does a guy need to go before finding decent sharpie area? I live in SW MN, so I can get to Chamberlain in about 4 hours, which seems to be a good area. In addition to that, how does hunting get in the late season? Is it worth planning a trip in November/December? Any advice is helpful.

Fort Pierre National Grasslands an hour northwest of Chamberlain is your best bet.
Everything I'm reading suggests late season is less worth it. Would you agree, or is it still worth the drive?

They get difficult to hunt later in the season. Most guys are focused on pheasants by then and don't bother hunting sharp tails.

I live in the area and hunt down there as much as I can. I’d say by November they’re a tough go. Can turn up a few single males alone in the grass, but they flock up and move to harvested crop field and you’re kinda SOL.

Also, the Fort Pierre Nat’l Grasslands is probably 75/25 maybe 80/20 prairie chickens over sharpies.
