I think you're on the right track with New Mexico but it might be hard to find a landowner willing to sell a tag to a self-guided hunter rather than through an outfitter. PLO tags will likely be easier to come by in Colorado or Wyoming but you're going to have to do a lot of work to find a...
Let me echo what others have said-- it will be delicious if you get it skinned, cooled and on ice as quickly as possible. Had this guy parted out so fast that the muscles were still twitching when he hit the cooler and he turned out fork tender.
Once watched a fraternity brother ignite a 30-foot tall bonfire with an arrow wrapped in a gasoline-soaked wrap set aflame. Maybe a job for that boy of yours?
If anything, I think this thread demonstrates that any reasonably soft .308 projectile (i.e, not FMJs) in the 150-165gr. class will kill all the deer you want inside a couple hundred yards.
I thought it was. Nothing truly groundbreaking but good to refresh and cement the skills you probably already have. I also took a Stop The Bleed class but it was very basic.
I was getting "Not a Valid Code" for everything I entered. Does that mean the tag had been sold in the millisecond before I clicked submit or was I doing something wrong?
I really liked the NOLS WFA course booked through my local REI but it was fairly basic-- mostly assess, stabilize and then get ahold of someone who knows what they're doing. Would like to go do the WFR certification eventually.
Not to derail, but am I the only one who gets a tic each time I load a Barnes TTSX and the nose plug is visibly off-center? Haven't had that issue with the HHTs even with having install the tip myself.
The Hornady American Whitetails in 150 or 165 will suit you perfectly fine for normal whitetail ranges in thick woods. I killed a small trainload of deer with the 150gr. SST in the Superformance line earlier in my hunting career-- they are absolute hell on deer, but slightly more pricy.
Appears to be working now. So how does this work-- each week's list shows only the tags that were turned in over the 7 days prior or does it capture the leftover list as well?
I might like to take a peek at it the next time I'm up there-- will shoot you a message to see if it is still available then. Was at Laughing Grizzly just down the road from you Saturday afternoon.
