It's not all bad. Back when I started gardening, I was happy if my corn followed the old rule of "knee high by the 4th of July" Now with the longer growing season my corn is head high by the 4th of July. I like to grow pumpkins and squash and I use to figure that if the pumpkin set by the end of...
Like @publichunter1 pointing out the all time high temps, you are using anomalies to try and disprove the norms. Your time would be better served studying the change in the norms if you somehow ever find yourself ever wondering what is actually happening.
So sorry to see this happening. I know only too well the rath of a wildfire.
A couple of days ago I was talking to my daughter's new man about morel picking in a fresh burn. I told him about a burn I was working in back in 1985 and about the ridiculous amount of mushrooms. Then it hit me. That...
I just read your story. I enjoyed it. Although your relationship with death is greatly different than my own, I appreciate the way you express yours. Your relationship with hunting, however, seems to be very close to mine.
I don't know, just lucky, I guess. Worms have aways hit my apples hard, but I just cut around them and make apple sauce. I had a couple of pear trees before the fire, and I never had much problem with worms in them. Now this is the second year the peach tree has produced, and I haven't seen any...
My dad gave me this knife in 1966. I have field dressed, at least partially, every big game animal I have ever killed, and a bunch of other people's animals, with this knife. I thought I lost it in the fire, but I found it nine months later in the bottom of the duffel I threw my clothes in when...
The other night we had cherry pie and the wife said she wanted vanilla ice-cream to go with it. So, I went down to Walmart. Umpqua is my favorite, but Tillamook was a dollar less. But then again, the Walmart brand was two dollars less than Tillamook. I thought, "It's just vanilla, how much...
My experience with 4-year-olds spinner fishing is that they drag it through the mud and rocks on the bottom until they get hung up and you spend all day trying to get it free then tying on a new spinner. A night crawler or a fly with a bobber and everyone is having fun.
After I killed my first elk, I had a bunch of roasts and wanted a creative way to use some. So, I invented a new dish. Since then, I have used elk, deer, bear. moose, caribou and beef. But with beef make sure it is as lean as possible. I am sure any other red meat would be just as good.
First...
My dad was almost 41 when I was born. He had done some pheasant hunting when he was in his twenties and on a few occasions throughout his life he had gone deer hunting with his brother but never really got into it. He liked fishing and like to read about both hunting and fishing, so he...
