Ugh...that's not good to hear...even if unsurprising.
Going back to a tangent earlier in this thread...I think Tribes are the greatest political influence in WA with respect to reasonable predator management. Some of them have even called out these commissioners for their racist policies. I...
When I say uninformed/ignorant I'm speaking to their knowledge of hunting/hunting practices...something I think is critical when setting hunting policy. Outside those lanes - I agree - they are intelligent, political, and informed on how to attack hunting opportunity. But when some of them...
I have zero issue with ATV's...its irresponsible users riding in illegal areas that I don't like. I use ATV's on many different hunts...especially the many open roads where I just don't want to take a full-size pickup.
Washington has a handful of the most ignorant wildlife commissioners in the country. Truly uninformed/ignorant people. I have no real issue with some of them wanting to take a broader view or even look more at non-game species - because I do not see a lot of that conflicting with...
I do not support creating a law like this. I think honest hunters who make a rare mistake and put great effort into recovering their game should decide for themselves if they want to pursue another animal. It may even lead to lower recovery (and more animals killed) because now a hunter who...
I don't think you did anything wrong. Just because your thread was hijacked by someone spreading rumors is not your fault...and I don't see any of your posts as wanting to start drama...I saw it as a genuine effort to discuss something important to you that conflicts with your values and tenants...
Landowner tags, auction tags, content creators, companies that peddle tags...all have one thing in common: commercial exploitation of a limited public resource (wildlife).
I'm no absolutist on any of it - but I think a good bit of the commentary here really comes down to how much...
I've soured on GoHunt over time...no one thing...bunch of small things. When the corner crossing fundraising started last year I wanted to see them be supportive...they weren't and so I canceled my subscription before the next renewal. Helping market landowner tags...just another straw on the...
I don't think this change will improve odds for any of the lower odds/high demand units...may even have the reverse effect as everyone anticipates great odds at the super high prices. Once this is settled, then all the neighboring states will clamor at how cheap their tags are and the race will...
I don't see this as all bad. Like most, I dislike the pay-to-play and constant march towards making hunting a wealthy person's game...but to the extent this creates more access it could be a positive. It has to be more appealing to a broad swath of landowners who want to maintain control...and...
My AK fishing guide buddy tells me the guys who say they prefer silvers to kings are the guys who can't catch kings...I say that in jest...because I'm a guy who likes kings but has a tougher time catching them than silvers!
I don't know about lifetime bans, but yes, if the purpose of someone acquiring a tag is to produce content...I support heavily restricting them. How many limited western tags are being gobbled up by commercial outfits putting their employees, associates, etc. in just so they can produce more...
I've been an advocate of just this thing. The content producers need to be regulated by more than just going and getting the land management agency film permit (which may not even be a thing in the future). The state should heavily regulate tag availability...commercial/for profit content...
Thank you buzz and JM and others for helping direct us to the right folks and offering up key messages.
The gist of what I just sent this group was everyone wants a bigger slice of the pie - but nobody is starving. 90/10 is reasonable and fair, but the outfitter set aside is a poison pill.
I have no ill-will towards WY resident hunters. In fact, I'd rather they go for 100-0 if it kept the outfitters from getting the welfare they are asking for. I am just as angry about WY as I was with ID last year when our outfitters upped their welfare grab from the NR pool.
But...if this...
I've got another idea...instead of outfitters whining for handouts to force clients to them...innovate and adapt like most other businesses in a free market system.
If 100% of your income is derived from a small group of guided NR hunters getting LE tags...maybe think about how to broaden...
No. But after reviewing their presentation I can't imagine your blood pressure during the actual meeting...I didn't realize several out of state guide's groups presented the different ways they receive welfare in their respective state.
Below is from the WY outfitters presentation at the meeting...so they will try to prevent 'bare minimum' outfitters. But I agree...will be curious what they can legally require and whether someone can figure out a work around.
If the WWTF moves forward with a proposal to the Legislature to...
I'd really like to see someone offer them applications for food stamps/social benefits at one of these meetings. Make it abundantly clear they are asking for government welfare/assistance and so instead of guaranteed elk tags, how about a food stamp card? Would make a great youtube video 😂
