    Mule deer numbers in Idaho were doing well through 2016. In much of eastern Oregon and Idaho, January-March 2017, winter kill was high. Drought since has likely contributed to the slow recovery. In Idaho, elk are up in most of the mule deer country too. The hard winter didn't hurt them much.

    Those are blues - or duskys as they want to call them now. Limit of 4 is not that tough in good years. I've killed a few ruffs in Idaho but not in the Sawtooths. The bigger question - Do I have enough dog? Nevermind - just saw the ruff pic on the barrel. I say it's taxidermy.

    Never have hunted in Montana. Worked forest surveys for a couple of months south of Sula and another couple west of Superior. Awesome country!
