Howdy,

1) What is your current GPS make and model?

2) And what do you consider the pros of your choice?

3) And what are the cons of the GPS unit you have chosen?

Thanks!!!

Etrex Vista hcx. Reliable. Chip comparable. Good battery life. Small and light.
Small screen a drawback for aging eyes

Garmin 64s
Works well with OnX chip, very reliable, great battery life
Small screen as well!

For what it's worth, I've been using both my iPhone with the OnX maps and the gps. With the iPhone in airplane mode it gets pretty good life for a couple days (gps still runs in airplane mode). You do need to download the map areas of interest prior to heading out though.

I have 2 GPS units that I use:

1. Garmin Oregon 600
2. Light weight, ease of use, chip compatible, touch screen
3. Screen can be small when using to scan detailed topo over a large area

1. Garmin Montana 650
2. Large screen, chip compatible, touch screen, long battery life
3. Added weight and bulk

I use the Montana when pickup camping and doing day hikes. The Oregon is used for multi-day backpacking trips where space and weight is of a concern.

1- Montana 600
2- big screen, chip capable, easy navigate, good battery
3- bulky, and I tend to use my iPhone with onX more often

eTrex 30.

Pros: good battery life, takes onX chip. I can run it all day for 3 days while I'm hunting before I replace the 2 AA batteries.

cons: $100 more than eTrex 20, small screen can require extreme zoom in to see terrain features. Not ideal, but topo map provides that.

Montana 600 w/ OnXmaps state chip.

Pros: Big screen, good battery life (all day)
Cons: Big screen, must remain on to track

Ha ha! I really do enjoy it though.
