I'd go the complete opposite direction of your intuition. This is a bonus gun, go nuts. This isn't about what you need or anything practical, it's about getting something cool, or that you'd never actually get for yourself.

I say .375 H&H, .28 Nosler, or a .204 Ruger.

Throw practicality to the wind, get something mental.

.308 Win as it’s boring but ammo can be found after this current ammo crisis is over as well as the next ammo crisis we’ll have in two years.

.280AI, or 6.5 PRC as a middleweight flat shooting rifle.

.30-06 because if you fall in love with the free rifle, it’ll do most anything you want.

.223/.204/.22-250. Why not shoot a free rifle ALOT.

So many ways to justify a free rifle.
