Anybody know if there is an age requirement for youth hunting small game in Wyoming? I see they have to be 12 to hunt big game, but wondering if a 5 year old can legally hunt rabbits in Wyoming next Fall.

You can sign them up through the Wyoming game and fish hunter mentor program with yourself as a mentor and they can hunt without a hunters safety card. You carry this paperwork with you while hunting.

That is correct. They are on your bag limit in that circumstance, just to be aware.

I think the hunter mentor program is good for one year only. They will have to take hunter safety after that in order to hunt anything, if hunting with a firearm. Once they do that, they don't need a license until age 14.

There is no minimum age to hunt small game in Wyoming. However, they count on your license. You are responsible personally for any mistakes or misdeeds that a minor does while under your mentorship and they must be under your immediate supervision while hunting. They must have a license 14 or over but under 14 they hunt under YOUR license, which means you must have a license to take minors under 14 hunting.

Here is the law governing that: https://law.justia.com/codes/wyoming/2014/title-23/chapter-2/article-1/section-23-2-102

They can hunt big game starting at 12 under immediate supervision of an adult. They can apply at age 11 as long as they will be 12 at the time they start hunting.
