Me and my son got a couple type 6 licenses and we are driving to WY in Oct. I have contacted 2 different people about private access that will allow us to get to a bunch of public. I would love to talk with someone who has some knowledge that could tell us yea or nea. These 2 tresspass fees are on completely different ends of the unit

Wife and I have the exact same 48-6 tag. You must be referring to the Orchard ranch? I scouted the unit in August on my motorcycle. The road around the northern boundary wasn't fun due to loose silt, kwad would be okay.

Side note is that I didn't see any elk at all. Met a really nice lady at a gas station who told me she lives in the unit and saw a huge herd just the night before I met her. Otherwise, I haven't gotten a huge mound of info out of my e-scouting attempts.

My son has the cow tag to the north, area 49. We plan to be based out of Ten Sleep and try for a cow for 3 days. Looking forward to exploring this region of the big horns, will be the first time in this area for me.

Ten sleep doesn’t have much there. Surprised you’re not basing out of Worland.

I think we are going Oct 15. If you go b4, I sure would appreciate any info.

It was really warm. Only saw a small group of elk in ONE area only, lots of outfitters and people running around in SxS's or sitting in camp in the middle of the morning/day/afternoon. 2 gun shots opening morning, 1 gun shot Thursday morning, nothing else. Winds can be a factor, too, since it's blowing one way in the AM, shifts 180 later morning. If I'd had a bull tag, I could have filled it no problem. I only saw 6 cows on opening morning.

Didn't pay the trespass fees, since I couldn't figure out where the supposed 1200 elk herd was (heard rumors of it!). The bull and cow season running concurrently during the first 3 weeks probably doesn't help. I'm debating on whether or not to go back in November, due to how few animals and how little gun fire I saw. No animals hanging in any of the outfitter/private camps I went by, only saw one 5x5 rack in the back of one SxS.

Because there's good county roads, lots of public ground, and I could stop on the road and glass miles of area, I didn't pay the trespass fees. There's Clear Creek, Orchard Ranch, and maybe one other.

Good luck! Like to hear how you fared, too.

Herd on big money private with no movement in near future. Dont think any elk anywhere else. We gave up. Extremely disappointing 20hr drive home

Beaglegun; could you have paid the trespass fee and gone after them? I think Orchard was 200 and Clear Creek was 150.
Spratt has a bunch of HMA ground, too.

Do they allow any bull hunting? I'm sure it would be more than those prices if so.
