Would you eat a CWD-positive animal?

I only have them tested if it's mandatory. That being said, if it was a sick and unhealthy deer, and tested positive, maybe wouldn't eat. Otherwise, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger right?

I don't know how many deer I've eaten that haven't been tested... has to be over 40.

Also how do you think it looks in the public eye when a guy shoots a deer throws it away then turns around and gets another tag even though he very well may throw it away too? What about science vs logic vs fear?Again, prion diseases (transmissible spongiform encephalopathy) have and can jump the species barrier. I think the antis would have more of a hey day if it jumps the barrier vs an extra allocated tag.

I eat untested deer, not arguing that side, just saying it’s possible.

If you have used a processor in an area where CWD is present, you have more than likely consumed prions.

I think about that all the time. (We do all our own, just the amount of deer that run through a processor though)

I have no intention of voluntarily testing any deer I shoot, but would refrain from shooting anything obviously sick. I have no worry about eating untested meat that I harvest. There are far more, and more serious things to worry about in life than some theoretical 1:100,000,000 or probably much smaller chance of being the first case of human CWD.

Where can you get an additional tag after having one test positive? I’ve not heard of that option before.

These encephalopathies often take decades to develop. So…maybe I’ll consume meat from a positive animal in decades. Either because I’m old enough not to worry much, or we’ve reached a population level of exposure with enough longevity that I’ll feel comfortable.

But caring for people with early onset dementia, CJD, head trauma from ladder falls, etc. has probably fed my bias in all sorts of ways and has influenced my behavior.

Not stupid just afraid. And 232 is the total dead of mad cow disease as of 2019 not per year. If that ain't apples to apples nothing is.

If we get 232 confirmed human CWD deaths and I guarantee you the answers to this thread would change a lot.

How do you think a few hundred CWD deaths in face of known tests results would play on TV?
