I'm jealous! I wish I had the flat ground that I could commit to my mill permanently. It's a pain to drag it out and set it up whenever I have a project.

I'm guessing you used a router sled for the surface . What bit or shaper cutter are you using?@Dsnow9 was generous with a big maple round that had some cool burled edges, so I made a coffee table...

Mine is 3 flute and nowhere near that quality. I had a 4 flute but they were terribly uneven. It left a horrible finish. I'm working on converting an old optical torch table for the router. It's wicked smooth and 5'x5'.Amazon.com

And the "finished" (still have to trim the tops of the 4x4s obviously and I'm still deciding on whether or not I want to paint it white) product:Not quite fine woodworking but I've been doing some work with wood on my days off. Set posts last week, braces and pickets going on today. Don't worry though, there'll still be something for the metalworking thread. View attachment 329994View attachment 329995View attachment 329996
I figured the grass hat was for doobies.I hate to throw away scraps of wood, but I make way too many of them. I had to purge a bit when I started working on cleaning out the garage. But I got a little bit of a pay off when I recently came up with an idea for a couple of hat hangers.

Out to the scarps I go, pick out a scrap of 1x12 pine and mark up some shapes to cut out and sand.

Using dowels and glue for connections and tung oil for finish, I had these on the wall the next day.

The hat on the right was my Father in Law's. We use it for when the kids make a snowman. The one on the left is my grass hat I wear when I am cutting the lawn.
One less scrap of wood on the shelf.
