I grew up watching Marty Stouffers Wild America in the 80's. I think this show helped pave the way for the solo hunting/filming content we have today. Lots of great video and information Take a minute and watch the video and enjoy

I grew up watching Wild America nearly every day. I'd bet that it influenced my desire to hunt, despite having grown up in a non-hunting family.

Watching Wild America definitely influenced me. The bighorns clashing in the intro is burned into memory.

Mutual of Omaha's "Wild Kingdom" with Marlon Perkins and "Jim" was the show in my day. I always wondered what those wildlife biologists they were hanging with ever found from all the radios they hung on different critters every week. Well, now I know. I've hung my own collars and I can tell you it is some of the least interesting and useful data given the expense and effort to get it, but it serves a purpose that Marlon never elaborated on for the show. Wish he had.

I remember asking to watch my Grandma's Wild America video whenever I spent the weekend at her farm. It definitely played a role in my interest in wildlife.

Marty built trails into areas he wasn't supposed to and had animals in pens to film. Sorry but his show was a disappointment when the truth came out.

So in other words it WAS a fore runner of some current hunting shows, eh?

I think the lynx chasing the snowshoe hare through deep snow has to be one of my all time favorite wild animal sequences. And I don't care if it was "set-up".

I read where he setup a permanent elk camp in Colorado and apparently cut a trail through public land to access it. I guess even though it was wrong I can't say one instance should sum up his whole career

Watched Wild America, Wild Kingdom, American Sportsman and a man named Wally Taber use to come to local schools and movie theaters. That stuff influenced a young boy greatly with all the adventure.

My father use to put on American Sportsman on Sunday afternoons when I was first getting started in hunting and fishing.
I can still hear the theme song in my head..Can You Hear It?

I can't hear it any more, but that's THE SHOW for hunting and fishing. Still nothing quite like it.

I'd say that Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom is one of the shows that helped light a fire in me for wildlife and the outdoors when I was a kid. It seems like it came on Sunday afternoons, and can still hear Marlon Perkins and Jim Fowler as if it were yesterday!
Thanks for bringing them up!
Later, I would definitely watch Marty Stouffer's Wild America! Loved that show too!

The one instance we know about. I'm sure there are many others and that was not a one time thing.
Kirt Darner was on the cover of all the hunting magazines and in many of the Cabelas catalog ads until the rumors of his many poached trophies became fact.
