Whatever happened to..?

Just making sure that recent trends here haven't scared off the good folks from this place!
About a half dozen longtime members asked to have their accounts deleted in the last month. Too bad, as all them contributed value to the forum.

Pretty much all had the same reason- tired of the continuous rancor that seems to have occupied too much of the forum lately.

I’ll admit, when some of those longtime guys asked me to delete their accounts, it made me reconsider the reasons for keeping the forum open. And it’s why I analyzed who were the members with a high whining-to-contribution ratio. Some of those people are no longer here, either.

When I look back to winter of 2017 and 2021, there were similar tones of political focus. Just seems to come with Presidential election cycles and new administrations. I’m hoping this too shall pass, as it eventually did in 2017 and 2021.

Some of you have shown a vested interest in contributing valued discussion and keeping the forum as a useful place of information sharing. Unfortunately, a few have no appreciation for the information shared here, and they selfishly stink up the joint. It’s the job of me and the moderators to sort out who is contributing versus who is stinking it up, and take necessary steps to recorrect the course.

I come to and spend time on HT for three reasons:

1) Humor - Lots of threads worth reading and contributing to lighten my mood. Jimmy V in his famous speech said that everyone should laugh, think and cry each day. I often get my chuckle in here.
2) Hunt Stories - Read good stories about others experiences. Especially love the live threads where you can be left on the edge of your seat hitting refresh often throughout the day.
3) Politics - This is the best source that I know of to know and understand what is going on in our nation regarding politics as it relates to hunting, fishing and public places. I have as a result acted and wrote my opinions to legislators from Florida to Texas to Montana to California. If I were to give up HT, its sad to say that this action would very likely be extremely diminished.

Point being that it isn't really the politics and the political topics that are the problem. Relating to hunting, fishing and public lands, the goal of an outdoorsman and steward of the land has nothing to do with being red or blue because what we would want or favor doesn't align with either party. Yet it is amazing recently how quickly a thread has posts with a heavy blame towards one side. I just don't see how that helps the discussion and deters myself from wanting to even contribute anymore to what might have been a valuable discussion.

The finger pointing and blame game comes up every time. Even in threads that have nothing to do with politics. Same offenders every time. I like the info I get here on wildlife and conservation issues. I like the Montana connection. Most of the drivel I try to work past. mtmuley
