What has been your favorite hunt of all

I grew up dove and quail hunting with my Dad. One late afternoon we were wrapping up a good day of quail hunting. Dogs were tired and loaded up. We were discussing the days hunt as we passed the gate on a field road. All of the sudden a solo quail flew in front of us landing in the fence row. Basically moved from one side of the field road to the other. We looked at each other somewhat surprised and stopped the truck. We loaded up to try for the single. My Dad stepped into the fence row to kick him up, dogs watching from the truck bed. Dad kicked the brush and to our surprise a whole covey of about 15 birds take flight. We shot until empty killing one bird. We were so surprised to have a full covey rise we were mostly firing for effect. We laughed all the way home about how the covey was cussing the bird that led us to them. Good day, I miss my Dad and those times.

I love hunting in my home state of Wisconsin but one of my favorite all time hunts was an out of state pheasant hunt in Watertown SD. Birds everywhere, dogs swimming in the hotel pools, beautiful O/U shotguns with attached stories. Can't wait to experience it again sometime.

For me it's mule deer hunting with my dad. He's been wanting to hunt mule deer for a long time, and we were able to make that happen. He connected on a small 4x4, ad the next morning I connected on a nice 4x4. Already planning our next trip.

Hands down, my first chukar over a point. I had a crappy shorthair that didn't listen, didn't point, and always preferred the next county over, to the point where I actually stopped taking her for many years. I just walked alone, on foot and hoped to bump into some. I did and I got some birds. Then i gave her another chance, and as she was a bit older (10) she listened and hunted better. I'd lost track of her in the fog, but pressed forward, came over a slight rise and saw her locked up. I eased in front of her, she held, a single got up at my feet and I sandbagged it. I can't describe my elation, way more joy than any deer or elk. Just the amount of effort, time, and frustration that preceded that singular magical moment... it was just such an intensely happy moment.

Like @Bambistew said, it's like a drug, I've been constantly chasing that feeling since, and while I get tastes of it more and more now that I have a good bird dog and know a bit more what I'm doing, I still can't satiate my appetite for more.
As a bird hunter I feel this deeply. I don’t even have a pointer but I will some day. I feel all of your frustration and failures that led to that point.

I'm grateful to say there have been many great hunts, and some I've shared previously. A big part of why I keep at it is the uniqueness of each adventure. The other biggest factor is the people I get to share these adventures with.

One of the great ones was a 2010 mountain lion hunt that lasted hours, and included the cat schooling us pretty good. We worked it out, and memories were made!View attachment 353961View attachment 353963
Beautiful cat!

69 in a couple months and I remember every hunt. Just might take a while to pull up the file...LOL
Started in 1972 and only a few breaks in between.
5 buck racks in the house and I can recall each one.

Still waiting for Big Hank to appear. The others don't count...LOL.
Just relatives.

My favorite hunt was when my 16 year old Granddaughter shot her first elk. First anything really, in fact this was the first day she had ever gone hunting. She did great, and spotted this bull in timber before I did. She was sooooo excited, practically bouncing off the aspen trees.

My favorite adventure/hunt was my first trip to Alaska. I was spent after 3 days and got a nice ram. We got hammered by a torrential rain hiking back to camp with heavy packs at midnight.

Finally, if you're not a duck hunter you might not "get" this last one; my "Lifetime Achievement Award". A special day with a once-in-a-lifetime duck, hunting with my best dog ever.
