I'm in the shoot it category. Otherwise I do what others have suggested and pull bullets, empty power, etc... From what I've read there is minimal danger from burning live ammo, without the pressure of being enclosed in a barrel most will simply "pop". Being that my only "fire pit" is the woodburner in my basement...I've not been that adventurous.
I've been to some shooting ranges that have a "dud" container. What they do with it I don't know, but you might consider trying a local range.
I'm currently in a similar circumstance with 2 boxes of old rimfire ammo that I know has gone bad. My old man used to toss old ammo into a local lake, but that's probably not the best idea
