What do you consider a "Boone & Crockett" animal? Awards or All-Time?

It's amazing how much bone it takes to make book..if I ever have the chance and can quit shaking enough to make the shot, I'll enter it in a heartbeat.

You can take the book or leave it, but I agree with others that if you have something officially measured and it qualifies, you should enter it. I've had two animals officially measured, a mountain goat that made it, and a pronghorn that did not. The measurer that did the mountain goat was excellent. He took every measurement 2-3 times, discussed each measurement with me, asked what I got when I measured it, etc. He was fair, didn't give me an eighth, and left me satisfied with his work. The guy who measured the pronghorn had literally been an OM for longer than I had been alive. He measured the prongs incorrectly and my buck missed "the book" by 1". It would have missed by about 1/2" if measured correctly, so I didn't follow up with B&C. I think maybe BuzzH had difficulty with the same measurer on pronghorn.

I had a friend who had a mountain goat measured for P&Y that should have made the book but did not. The measurer had no clue what he was doing. The final net score he came up with was actually an odd 1/8", which is impossible if the math is done correctly. The guy would not listen to any arguments about his scoring.

30 yrs ago it seemed important. Gave the guide some good press and helped keep him in business. Dave is a good guy, so I don't regret the effort of having it scored.

At 61, the score is meaningless to me now. I gave the full mount to the NC Children's Museum a long time back, after it was destroyed in a hurricane flood. No Regerts.

The memories of what we had to do... to run across that AZ mountain and get to that bear will forever be my B&C.

The Boone & Crockett club is a good group that really helps wildlife and related issues. It's not just about size. If I ever kill an animal large enough to make B&C I'll certainly enter it. I think it's a neat way to help celebrate the animal and respect and honor it at the same time. If a person researches this group you will find a bunch of folks who really care about our wildlife and how they are doing in today's world. Teddy Roosevelt was one of the folks who helped start Boone & Crockett and assisted a lot in saving different areas of our country from being destroyed.

Finally found what started this thread.

This is from a GoHunt article that discusses B&C entries. It listed the B&C entries by county for Wyoming Elk since 2010.

Park County 8
Sweetwater County 4
Teton County 3
Fremont County 2
Sheridan County 2
Natrona County 2

The article was written in 2016 so assuming that was 5 years of data that would be only 4 elk per year entered into B&C from the entire state of Wyoming.

That didn't seem like very many elk to me so I was wondering if they are only counting the "All-Time" entries vs. "Awards" + "All-time".

Forgot to add that I am a B&C member also. Like Finn said it's a good group to join.

I consider "Awards" to be a B&C animal.

To attain a true net score above the "All Time" minimum is a rarity that few animals could ever reach. I believe the animal, not necessarily the hunter, deserves the recognition and B&C offers a great resource for that.

I would think that includes both... "Awards" are still an exceptional animal....

I've never entered anything in any of the books, personal choice, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing so and many have pointed towards the positives of doing so...
