Every time I see wilderness pictures, like those being posted in the wilderness thread Randy started, I can't help but think about who may have been in those same areas throughout the ages and wonder what the tools and weapons they used looked like.

I guess it all appeals to my love of anything historical. My wife says I am "the guy" that reads all the info placards in any museum I've ever visited. I guess I am. Which is why my favorite hobby, outside of hunting and fishing, is mine and dads collection of artifacts from the Native American hunters of the past. We have been collecting for years. Dad started when he was a teen. I started as soon as he could get me out walking the fields, creek beds, and river banks. About 99% of our collection is personal finds with only a few being purchased.

The two pictures in the middle are of a projectile made from an antler tip. It was a personal find from a Fort Ancient culture site I use to hunt frequently. The Fort Ancient culture was around from around 1000 AD to 1700AD. It was polished sharp, drilled in the bottom and most likely attached to a shaft. I can't imagine that it was used by the hunter for more than small game. It isn't particularly worth very much, but it remains my favorite artifact. I like the bone and antler artifacts of my collection more than the stone artifacts. I guess the fact that it is something tangible and made from the animals that they harvested that makes the connection for me.

Anyone else collect anything? Stamps, coins, antiques?

That is a very nice collection! I have a small collection of arrow heads and a hand ax but I wouldn't call myself a collector. I look for them when the fields are plowed and have nothing else going on. Seems like I collect many things but have not been serious about any one collection..maybe that is called hording?

Used Swiss Army Knives. Though "collector" implies the objects are nice and/or valuable. I am really more of an "accumulator."

The scrimshaw is awesome LopeHunter. We have a few pieces but nothing like that collection. Very nice. Bigjay73 heard that can be expensive :D

Mutual and index funds....

I could only afford one hobby, so I decided to collect these to fund my hunting addiction...I mean hobby :D

Love college football, did a set of the PAC 12 years back , North Division on top South on bottom, I arrange the helmets according to the standings after each week , had season tickets to the Ducks for 14 years until my divorce. I also started collecting music again. Had a monster CD music collection in my 20’s . Now that CDs are being sold less and less in stores , I’ve found that going to Goodwill Every week or 2 and browsing what shows up is enjoyable and you never know what musical treasures you might find , digital is a nice convenience , but I enjoy looking at and reading the album art and notes , plus the CDs are 1.99 each ... simple pleasures

I love hunting for sharks teeth at the beach, always end up with a sunburned back from walking around hunched over all day. Awesome arrowhead collection by the way.

Those are some beautiful collections.

I collect maps, have since I was 5 years old, and have a room filled with piles of em. If I ever win the lottery the first thing I will do is frame 100 or so of them.

Here’s a 1936 Region 1 map that is 6 x 4 feet.

^I love maps too. I don't know if I'd say that I collect them, but I have a bunch of them. Ever since I was a kid I would sit and study them for hours. Always wanted to know more about the the world and my place in it.
