I see there are brand name biodegradable bar and chain oils, but does regular canola oil from the pantry work just as well? I'm not planning to cut meat with it, I just want something that won't make me smell like a chainsaw while in hunting camp.

Are you sure its the chain oil smelling? All I have ever used is recycled engine oil and I don't think it smells but then maybe I have been smelling it so long. The premix is usually what you smell.

Here you go. Screenshot_20211020-100840_Chrome.jpg
But seriously guys in moose camp use vegetable oil when cutting legs/meat but if doing a lot of cutting I worry might get to hot.

I would probably just dedicate a pair of clothes specifically for cutting wood and make sure I store them in a bag or box away from my gear. To me the issue is more 2 cycle exhaust not the bar oil though. In that case electric saws are the only way to go plus they are quieter.
